One of the jurors who convicted Derek Chauvin for the murder of George Floyd last month defended his participation in a BLM protest last summer in Washington, DC, amid speculation it might be grounds for the cop's appeal.
A photo, posted on social media, shows Brandon Mitchell attending an August 28 event to commemorate Martin Luther King Jr's 'I Have a Dream' speech during the 1963 March on Washington.
It shows Mitchell, a high school basketball coach, standing with two other men and wearing a T-shirt with a picture of King and the words, 'GET YOUR KNEE OFF OUR NECKS' and 'BLM'. He is also wearing a baseball cap printed with Black Lives Matter.

All depends on whether a court will even hear the appeal. From the end of last year through now, from the lower courts to SCOTUS, the courts have proven that they do NOT care about justice.
Folks on the Right didn’t riot, destroy lives and businesses, or burn cities. They went on with their lives. Angry as can be, but did it anyway.
Knowing that a mistrial can and SHOULD be declared and no way of seating an impartial jury, leading to overturning the verdict will set the country on fire again. They know that. They won’t do that.
Just a little bias? Guy should be in jail for perjury.
“They are good if they are controlled by good people and bad ...”
The country policemen and their management are not as monolithic as you think.
Yes. That is the problem. Making a generalization like that.
That's not how it works and not what a "jury of peers," means. By your logic every 19 year old gang banger on trial for dealing crack would be entitled to a jury of other 19 year old gang bangers.

Do you think that it is more likely that a policeman will be used to come take away your gun, arrest you for going to work or operating your business when you have been told to shut it down, arrest you for having 1/2 a beer too much, ticket you for going 5 mph too fast...
OR....
...come to your rescue when a thug tries to hurt you?
I am 100% certain I know the answer as it pertains to me. I don’t go around thugs and I am able to protect myself. On the other hand, I am sure there are things I do that my President, Governor, elected leaders, etc.... disagree with and would love nothing better than to send armed goons to my door to stop me.
Those of us who have been called for jury duty surely remember signing,on our honor, that we were telling the truth.....and that there would be penalties if we lied
I do believe that’s grounds for reversal.
Biased and lied about something directly related to the incident in order to get on the jury.
I get what you are saying there, nitzy. I honestly do.
But I do have a different take on it. I am fully onboard with 2nd Amendment rights, and I believe EVERYONE should be able to open carry everything up to and including a fully automatic Uzi. That makes me radical to some people, but that is what I believe we should have the right to do.
On the other hand, we know what we pay our taxes for, and part of it is Rule of Law.
I agree we don’t have that uniformly across this nation right now, but we shouldn’t discount that either.
One of the best things about government is that the protection that we pay for with our taxes (and should be DELIVERED by government) is basic security and rule of law.
That way we don’t have to post guards on our property to secure our belongings while we work for a living, never mind having to pull out weapons to kill people who are trying to kill us as we drive down the street.
We should be able to do that if we have to, but having a reliable rule of law which means you don’t have to expend time and energy to post guards on your crops or your property is a benefit that SHOULD be provided.
I agree it isn’t what it should be right now. However, I think we need to FIX it instead of defunding and discarding it.
If we can’t fix it, that likely means it is all over for our country as we knew it anyway, and we are going to be at that point of lawlessness in due course.
“The jurors will still be worried about riots if they come up with the “wrong” verdict, and possibly with their identities becoming public.”
In today’s world jurors aren’t worried about riots. They are worried about their personal safety. They know the judicial system will not protect them.
That’s enough to ask for a mistrial. (Or whatever the proper legal term is.)
That kind of stuff is ALL on the elected officials to whom the police report to (mayors, city managers).
"What may come back to haunt the prosecution is that Mr. Mitchell, 31, answered “no” when asked during jury selection if he had attended any protests for George Floyd.“I think they asked if I attended any protests for George Floyd or anything for police brutality. My answer was no because I hadn’t,” Mr. Mitchell told WCCO-TV in Minneapolis. “This particular march was more so for voting, voter registration. Getting people out to get out and vote for the presidential election that was upcoming a couple months afterward … This was the only thing I attended.”
“The march that he went to, which was on August 28, 2020, was specifically about police brutality,” criminal defense attorney Joe Tamburino, who was not associated with the case, told WCCO. “In fact, it was partly advertised as ‘Get Your Knee Off Our Necks’ and it had speakers with the Floyd family, Breonna Taylor and Jacob Blake.”
Mitchell lied to the court.
(1) Will he be held to account? (2) Will Chauvin get a re-trial? At least one of the jurors clearly had him guilty before the trial.
The answer....should be.... YES to both.
That and he was convicted of second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter. How can you be convicted of all 3? I uninterntionally/intentionally murdered him with purposeful/undeliberate manslaughter murder.
Correct.
And we no longer have free elections, rule of law, blind justice, a free press, a Constitution, etc...
So why should we continue to give the tyrants who have taken over, the tools to dominate us?
Defund the police, the CIA and the FBI.
As I just said in another post... We no longer have free elections, rule of law, blind justice, a free press or a Constitution.
It’s over.
Defund the police, the CIA and the FBI before they are turned against the good guys even more than they already are.
I am not ready to take the jump to civil war, because that is what it will be, so I am willing to try more.
Leon Trotsky had a great quote that applies if I change it: “You may not be interested in civil war, but civil war is interested in you.”
If it comes to that, few will be able to sit it out.
