States with strictest lockdowns ruined livelihoods — without saving lives

At a time when politics has become vicious and national, Americans would benefit from looking at leaders’ competing visions at the state level. Who is actually making people’s lives better or worse, and how? The public may be starting to do so as Govs. Ron DeSantis, Gavin Newsom, and Andrew Cuomo have attracted national attention for — well — a variety of reasons. But their controversies only scratch the surface. One of the important and under-appreciated stories of the last year is how pro-lockdown states ruined the livelihoods of millions of Americans without any lives saved to show for their heavy-handed interventions.

I knew this on day one. Hearing governor fat boy talk about which businesses can be open and which could not I knew something was really wrong.

Most of us knew where this was going and look at it now. Hindsight is such a painful lesson. Covid was the gift from hell to the leftists, statists and globalists. It seems the bad guys just seem to be on a winning streak.

What with the dire prediction of millions of dead Americans (soon after shown to be a gross exaggeration, if not an outright lie), and the promise of a return to sanity after two weeks to "flatten the curve", what sane person would not feel differently than that same sane person feels 14 months later?

Even through the haze of irrational fear we see the horrors of allowing ourselves to be controlled --literally -- by ego-maniacal politicians, power-obsessed unelected bureaucrats and celebrity-infatuated "experts".

It is so obvious, yet we have dozens of people right on this forum who are still caught up in the hysterics. The one useful thing that this “pandemic” has accomplished has been to cause a lot of people to show their true colors. We now know who the sheep are who are easily influenced by obvious propaganda. We also know those who are too afraid to expose themselves to any type of perceived risk. Despite their blustering on other subjects do we really believe that they would be good in any type of challenging situation.

I was fortunate to work in a career where those who were worth their salt had opportunities to show what they were worth and those who were could not be counted on also revealed themselves. This “pandemic” has managed to show the true character of so many.

That is spot on! My Aunt told me in the beginning of April 2020 that I being selfish about masks and that I was going to expose my handicap mother to the virus. My mom is just fine and was never scared in the first place. I have not spoken to my aunt first.

My neighbor who self identifies as a conservative but is one of the biggest phonies that I have ever met was bragging about how he and his family have all been immunized. I told him that my wife and I were exposed dozens of times over the past year and had developed antibodies from that so we didn’t need the experimental vaccines. He stepped back in horror because despite being vaccinated he is still afraid of catching Covid from someone not vaccinated.

This is a person who armed himself “to the teeth” before the year 2000 and was bragging that he was ready to go into battle if he had to. He was a joke then and still is. Would you depend on someone afraid of their own shadow for any kind of security?

Dozens?! I think it's a lot more than dozens, but maybe it's just that they squeal/bloviate/Karen the loudest/most frequently...

You are probably right... I haven't kept a list of those who have shouted me down over the past year, but there are a lot of headless chickens running around the barnyard.

That's where we are at. Dimsley is currently working on signing massive new tax increases into law.
