In L.A. and San Francisco, Schools Are Open but Classrooms Are Near-Empty

When Siniya Longino arrived for her first day of in-person eighth grade in San Francisco last week, there was only one other student in the classroom. Everyone else was remote, as were all of her teachers. Siniya logs into Zoom on her laptop from her desk to see them.

“I personally would have preferred to stay at home,” Siniya said. “I just feel like there’s no point.”

In San Francisco and Los Angeles, tens of thousands of middle- and high-school students returned to classrooms last week for what some parents are calling “Zoom in a Room.” The unusual model, in which students sit at desks with laptops learning remotely while an adult supervises them, is the latest twist in the slow reopening of public schools here in the nation’s most populous state.

Majority of the teachers are still hiding at home, pajamas, champagne, maybe the medicinal joint or two.

Time to retire these worthless teachers like California is retiring toll collectors at toll booths.

More social and political insanity maintained by America’s printed, fiat, currency and the massive debt and spending it allows.

The school board can't have it both ways; if it's dangerous enough for protective measures such as masks and "social distancing", it's too dangerous to be there.

Have the government remove the illegal restrictions before forcing victims into situations.

Here in Fairbanks, public schools are open. Teacher is in class with a laptop. Students who feel “safe” are in school with laptops. Teachers teach the class to everyone at the same time I person and online. Not as good. Definitely not as good.
Private schools have been open all year.

Talked to my prospective summer hire yesterday. He will be a Senior.

I asked him if he was learning anything at school. He said no and added nothing good but a lot of it.

Sounds like more loaf from home by everybody. He goes to school but said it is mostly a waste of time. Chaos with the students in classrooms, home, teachers trying to teach to both.

He has not learned much at school since I’ve had him working here these last two summers.

He has worked some after school and I asked what he learned today just like my after school work employer would ask me. The items he can tell me he has learned is very very short. I told him to just quit school and I would teach him.

Same here for my grandsons. They’re in the school building, but everything they do is online with their laptops.
