No matter how you slice it, only one candidate can survive the potential “Steel Cage” political death-match brewing in Florida between three Republicans: Gov. Ron DeSantis and Sens. Marco Rubio and Rick Scott. It’s a highly anticipated WWE-like event of epic proportions that assumes current Florida resident Donald Trump will not run for president in 2024.
Of course, one never truly knows when it comes to Trump. There was the bizarre recent news report by Business Insider in which a Trump “adviser” declared that the former president “has lost 15 pounds since he left the White House.” One “veteran Republican strategist” told the publication: “I think there’s an extra 10 percent to 15 percent chance he runs if he lost 20 pounds.”
Did you hear that, 81 million Americans who voted against Trump? You’re his losing five more pounds away from your worst nightmare. If you truly love your country, you might want to think about getting together to crowdfund a donut shop near the entrance to the grounds of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort.
Leaving that “Mirror, mirror on the wall” scenario aside, I am in the camp that believes Trump will not run for president again, choosing instead to try to influence various elections — including the 2024 presidential election — either from behind the walls of his palatial estate, on the campaign trail, or from some yet-to-be-created conservative social media platform.
If that’s the case, it leaves the state of Florida wide open for DeSantis, Rubio and Scott to duke it out.
The smart money is on DeSantis because of the way he performed as governor during the COVID-19 pandemic, a response recently praised by even left-leaning Bill Maher on HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher”; and because that response significantly raised DeSantis’s national profile in a positive way.

Sorry. No.
stop pretending things are normal.
Hey, Hill: Why don't you write an in-depth study on when the Dems will remove Resident Biden so Heels Up can take over?
No to Rubio and Scott. They have no real following.
Rubio and Scott don’t stand a chance with the base not no but HELL NO!!!
Desantis has been awesome for Florida and would be good for the Whitehouse...
but i’d rather not lose a superior governor who is our only protection from whacked out feds
Rubio always reminded me of a high school kid who won class president election, and then started coming to school in a suit and tie every day.
Rubbero and Alien look-alike Scott can pound sand. I don’t trust either one of them!
DeSantis is a torch.
The other two are fizzles.
Phony self-servers who were nowhere to be found when needed most.
Rubio is done. He will not win another election or primary.
This. I think Rubio has been examined by most primary voters in other states. He is a great fund-raiser, but he does not energize the base.
Right now the field is Trump > DeSantis > and everyone else. Cruz is going to run hard again and he is really picking up his TV hits, but I think many “big C conservatives” won’t be all that warm to him again. He had a pretty weird vibe going in the last months of the primary against Trump.
On paper and principle, Cruz should be formidable for those of us around here, but his style and his chin do not compare to the last guy. Maybe that’s not fair, but it’s just my .02
If the states do audits and it turns out like we all know it will
Trump will be president in August just like Mike Lindel says
Our great and wonderful president Donald J Trump won this election in a runaway landslide everybody on the planet knows it
and it’s just a matter of uncovering all of the shenanigans that the Democrats pulled and are trying to hide. Desperately
Problem for the Democrats is there something called the ballots
“Senators make horrible Presidential candidates”
And worse Presidents.
Only 3 elected (post 1916) Senators have been elected President. All 3 were disasters (I know JFK has his fans here).
That’s because the key skill set for becoming a US Senator is being a BS artist, and the key skill set for being President is administrative competence.
Trump needs to fo whatever he can to keep this from turning into a circular firing squad.

Rubio and Scott are lightweights compared to DeSantis.
———and it’s not even close. I may vote for Scott again, maybe, but not so sure about Rubio.
Desantis i will vote for and send money.
Rubio the Gentle can forget it. Scott should step aside in a show of respect for the FL governor who seems to be looming large at the moment. Scott could function as an effective attack dog against the left. It can only become a negative spectacle otherwise.
I’m ok with Rubio and Scott staying right where they are. They are not POTUS material.
Maybe it will be Trump/DeSantis versus Romney/Crist?
I don’t think Scott has much of a chance. Rubios hppes are pretty thin. DeSantis could do it but it’s way too early to say.
DeSantis’ re-election will tell us, he is Target #1 for the Rats in 2022, we’ll see if he has the stuff.
