A Gas Shortage Could Impact Your Summer Plans—Here's What You Need to Know

We've survived through toilet paper, bicycle, and meat shortages over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, but the latest potential source of concern—gasoline—could have an impact on your summer plans. CNN reported yesterday that the concerns about shortage have nothing to do with gasoline supply—but everything to do with a shortage of qualified truck drivers to get the gas from the refineries to the stations.

The upshot? You could find gas stations running dry this summer. "Demand for truckers is very high, and with gasoline demand rebounding, it's been a challenge in some areas of the country where gasoline demand was especially brisk—like spring break destinations—for stations to stay ahead of the demand with fewer truckers," says Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy. "The issue this summer won't be the gasoline itself—refineries have ample capacity thus far—but with drivers who have hazmat certification who can move the gasoline."

Anything to keep the serfs in the sticks and the proles in the walls.

Yes, I can’t wait for the Cabal to issue an “edict” that burning wood for heat is a major “polluter” and heretofore is banned. That’s in the pipeline, for sure…

There will be a shortage on everything because we are about to be Venezuela.

I hope you’re wrong but I think you’re right.

A friend a little familiar with the trucking industry had these comments when asked about this a few days ago; cut’n’paste from his text to me:

1) drivers that were near retirement went ahead and retired because of the ‘rona

2) the federal did something to be able to better track drug issues and relate it to CDLs and a bunch of drivers lost their CDLs I don’t have numbers on this one.

3) face it, young kids don’t want to work

I’d love to hear from an industry-knowledgeable FReeper on this.

Logistics companies are struggling massively right now.
I work with a few and they cannot keep drivers on their payrolls.

Of course, you have to look at the pool of candidates they recruit as well. Half of those who drive have criminal records and he joked that there’s an average of a few fist fights a month at his warehouse. LOL!

There is a shortage due to the way they are treated at truck stops, and high gas prices. Can’t get service because of COVID FREADYCATS, HOOKERS DON’T CARE. TRUCKERS HAVE TO EAT, SHOWER, STOCK UP ON ITEMS. Some are Diabetics, need to keep their insulin cool that takes ice. Treated like Pariah’s. 6 weeks out, low pay. Ticket targets.

An engineered shortage to benefit the fascist government and its industrialists.

“Could” - the biggest weasel word there is! It turns the sentence into meaningless babble. “An asteroid could hit Earth May 10.” Should you be running for cover?

This article adds nothing to the font of knowledge of the human race.

As every year, gas prices go up late April, and May. Every year, due to increased demand. Supply and demand. Totally normal.

The author of the article wants there to be long lines and misery.

No, sorry CNN, there WILL NOT be a shortage...unless the government takes steps to create one (by limiting supplies and/or trying to control prices).

There are PLENTY of Americans perfectly capable of driving trucks and can probably do so within a month...for the right pay.

Astonishing. We have gone in short months from being the world’s largest energy producer to...this.

I find it difficult to believe what we are seeing is due to incompetence. If it were, the laws of averages would dictate that at least some of the actions taken by Leftists would have a positive effect on this country.

It is malicious intent by the Left and those that ally willingly or unwillingly with them. I have long concluded that they wish to destroy this country so they can re-make it in their own image.

Road courtesy is rapidly declining, and I’m seeing semis swerving while drivers are on their phones.
