If we’ve learned anything from the South China Sea it’s that China will claim the waters adjacent to your islands thereby making a fiction of your status as an independent nation. Having a well trained submarine force is a good way of keeping the Chinese Navy off your front lawn.

Yes, it’s their waters, the same way a US sub operates off our own coasts.

My guess is that this accident was probably uncontrolled flooding in the forward torpedo room leading to a main battery failure then implosion. 2nd guess, hot battery in those old torpedos caused an explosion in the tube or the sub itself. Then implosion.

a lot of bad things could have happened but they recorded no implosion, so that would indicate flooding

Supposedly my grandfather was a submariner before WWI (he got a hardship discharge after war was declared because his wife had died leaving my aunt motherless).

I always feel bad for sailors who die in submarines, it seems you wouldn’t have a chance of survival.

May these men rest in peace and may the Lord comfort their families.

If they have acoustic listening systems it could take a while to interpret the data. They might have to pull in ASW consultants from the RN, Australia or the USN. I don’t necessarily think they’ll have to, but I’d an Australian sub was in the area, her sonar recordings might take a while to get.

torpedo’s do not use battery’s but they sound like electric razors on sonar, inner torpedo door is never opened before the outer door and the tube is flooded, still... why no implosion?

“angles and dangles is a hoot”

Angles and dangles do no compare to having to perform real evasive maneuvers.
