Gov. Gavin Newsom to face recall election as Republican-led effort hits signature goal (IT'S ON LIKE DONKEY KONG!)

SACRAMENTO — Propelled by growing voter frustration over California’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, a Republican-led drive to remove Gov. Gavin Newsom from office collected enough voter signatures to qualify for the ballot, state officials reported Monday, triggering for only the second time in the state’s history a rapid-fire campaign to decide whether to oust a sitting governor.

Recall backers submitted more than 1,495,709 verified voter signatures — equal to 12% of all ballots cast in the last gubernatorial election — meeting the minimum threshold to force a special recall election, according to a tally released by Secretary of State Shirley Weber. Barring intervention by the courts, Newsom will face a statewide vote of confidence by year’s end.

Though recent opinion polls showed that only 40% of California voters support recalling Newsom, an indication that the effort might fail, the success of the recall campaign in gathering enough valid signatures for a special election delivers a blow to Newsom as one of the nation’s most prominent and politically ambitious Democrats, who raised his national profile as a liberal foil to former President Trump.

“Would she be the first female gov of Kalifornica?” Kaitlyn if I’m not mistaken is identified as a “female” on her driver’s license. I wonder how the libs would react when the press calls Kaitlyn the first female California governor.
As for Arnold, people should have known that when Maria Shriver campaigned for Arnold, Arnold wouldn’t be a socially conservative governor.

"I have seen no evidence that the Founders were against local or state governments having means of direct public intervention in government. Certainly the Constitution does not forbid such."

I never claimed it was unconstitutional, merely un republican. As for referendums and initiatives, I'm against those in principle as well, on a state level. They are merely a way for gutless politicians to not make decisions that they were elected to do, like the BRAC comissions in the 1990s and 2000's at the federal level.

The majority of our founders were against direct democracy. They were for enlightened members of society to be elected, pass laws and go back into society and live under the laws they passed. I'm for the repeal of the 17th amendment I think Senators should be selected to serve by their states. The 17th amendment cut the power out of the states in their representation in Congress and now Senators are beholden to moneyed special interests instead of to their states. When states selected Senators to serve, that was federalism, that was republicanism.

I believe in liberty most of all and I believe the best way to achieve that at the state and federal levels is through republic principles of government. I believe more powers should be devolved to the local level. I can easily access my Mayor or town council. It's not so easy to access governors, congressmen and Presidents.

Well, for one they’re not smart. They’re just conniving, snake oil salesmen/women. Once in the right position then refer to the Dem playbook to use that position to amass more control, money and hold people hostage. And then they get a some demographics under their spell to maintain those positions.

And worst of all, it is at every level. HOA, school board, city council, county commission, state, federal. Doesn’t matter.

Great news!

But there needs to be an audit of 2020 election too. Voting machines are used in California and they also pulled some shenanigans by greatly reducing the number of polling places available= reduced number of people counting the votes. Could it be that most all of the poll workers were democrats?

These are things that have to looked into ASAP.

Uh I guess you did not learn from the 2020 election that elections are rigged.

He will not be removed.

If we had real elections, then our country would be in a lot better shape. The Democrats have been stealing elections and the Republicans let it happen.
