This law, and many like them, were passed because AIDS infected men [99% are men] were DELIBERATELY infecting their lovers / one night stands / glory hole recipients. As clear an act of pre-meditated murder as would be arsenic poisoning over 3 years.
But the treatments [thanks Reagan!] were successful enough to keep an infected person alive 20+ years, so the murder / attempted murder laws were not a good fit. So now the lefties want to go back to allowing someone who KNOWS they carry a deadly infection, spread through sex, to engage in butt sex without informing the catcher. And you [the taxpayer] get to pay for their treatment! Wins all around.

Different disease, different laws. AIDS was branded a gay disease and the politicians did not want to inconvenience gays. No fascist laws. No mask laws. No lockdowns. Nothing was done to reduce spread by indiscriminate random contact. No gay groups were shut down.

Not ‘branded a gay disease’, just that gay sex is by far the most common and easiest way to infect others. It got the moniker of a “gay disease” because it is almost always transmitted through anal sex [virus contained in semen enters body through fissures torn in rectum caused by act], sometimes by sharing infected needles by heroin addicts, and rarely by normals by blood transfusions [that was fixed with testing].
