What if Iran doesn't actually plan to use a nuclear weapon?
What if Iran wants, as various of its officials have said over the years, to prevent being toppled the way Saddam Hussein was, or Moammar Gaddafi or Hosni Mubarak? To prevent a 20-year U.S.-led invasion like that of Afghanistan? Nuclear-armed North Korea, not to mention Russia and China, have received far more forbearance from the U.S. than the leaders of Iraq, Libya, and Egypt, or the Afghan people. Yes, all things considered, its better to be a nuclear-capable Iran than not.
Iran might be willing to accept delays in the program in exchange for time, space, and money to pursue its other long-term goals. We can't know that for certain, which makes pressure and a tight negotiating posture essential for the U.S. and its allies, and makes the ongoing, effective sabotage at nuclear-related facilities a well executed blessing.
The time to parse Iran's non–nuclear weapons goals is now, before making concessions to Tehran.
Biden and Obama administration officials and their media supporters appear to regard a return to the JCPOA (the "Iran deal"), or even an extended and more restrictive JCPOA, as the solution to the problem of Iran. But it is not. Regardless of the outcome of the Vienna talks, the problems that make Tehran a threat to peaceful order at home and abroad will remain and likely be exacerbated.

One look at a map would tell you that no country is going to invade Iran.
The Mullahs are men who think their savior will come out of a well, and will start the last battles for Allah.
While there are plenty of American leaders who believe their messiah is going to drop down out of space, riding a city down to pick up their homies, they are not trying to force that on everyone else in the world.
I know some Iranians. They don’t hate the US. But they also love their country. But they are not armed—so they cannot take back their country. They all know how this is going to end—with shouldering nuclear labs and a lot of people dead.
Back in 2002 George W. Bush declared Iraq, Iran, and North Korea to be an “axis of evil”. Then he went and invaded Iraq. So who could blame Iran and North Korea for thinking “Hey, we’re next on that list. We had better do something to protect ourselves.”
I’m not saying those countries aren’t evil (they are). But I wonder how much W’s bombastic speech contributed to the problem. As an analogy, suppose some guy threatens three of his neighbors. Then he goes and shoots one of them. I’m thinking the other two would start to arm up pretty fast.
(That wouldn’t be a complete explanation of Iran’s and North Korea’s behavior, of course. But it could be a big part of it.)

They are on record of wanting to wipe Israel off the map. It’s not for defense purposes.
So ignore what they have said many times and continue to say?....that’s the same as letting an assassin load his pistol as he swears to kill you...no thanks...
Which they will, eventually, probably do.
Thank you Jimmah Carter.
