Rutgers Professor Britney Cooper
Rutgers University associate professor Brittney Cooper said Ma’Khia Bryant, a black teenager whom a police officer fatally shot after the 16-year-old appeared to attack another with a knife, has been “adultified” because “she was a big girl,” making the remarks during a Thursday appearance on MSNBC.
Cooper discussed the fatal police-involved shooting of Bryant, who is seen on camera wielding a knife, lunging at another girl.
“Look, the arguments for our movement have never been that black people have to be perfect in order for them to deserve dignity, for us to have good policing, for us to be viewed with humanity, for cops to take a breath before they literally get out of the car, guns blazing,” Cooper (pictured) told host Joy Reid, later contending that some do not “understand black girls as girls.”
“But beyond all of that, what are we gonna do about the way we don’t understand black girls as girls?” she asked.
“Ma’Khia Bryant was a child … and the way that she has been talked about as this, you know, because she was a big girl, so people just see her as the aggressor, they don’t see her humanity,” Cooper asserted.
“They have adultified her. We turn black girls into grown women before they even are able to vote,” she continued.
“I have watched folks across the political spectrum really defend this and say … and empathize with the officer, say that he didn’t have any other set of choices,” she added:
What are we training police to do if they are not actually showing up on the scene and making the situation better for all involved? If you can’t figure out how to deescalate a 16-year-old, even with a kitchen knife, when you’ve got a gun .....

Big Greasy, Gravy Soppin' Water BuffaHo
A professor of all the pastry shops and fast food joints in the greater Piscataway area.
The ones that get THAT education get it on scholarship.
So regular tuition doesn’t matter.
The camera adds... ten pounds?!
Studies race and gender politics. Has a PhD. Waste of a career.
And her ‘students’ have all gone on to illustrious careers serving Whoppers and Big Macs.
_______________
Nope, they become social workers to deal with other MaKhia Bryants, and human resources staffers to screen incoming hires, and government functionaries to carry out policy and keep your life running smoothly.
Yup. They say he used to keep them awake making music but, they did learn how to write songs from listening to him.
I am taking up a collection to buy this sweat hog 100 big macs.
Rutgers is a propaganda machine for the hard left.
I’ll take a journeyman electrician way over her for positive impact on society.
I understandify !!!!!
OK, I’m confused. A 12 year old is mature enough to decide they want to be another sex and can start taking hormones that will change their life. A teen is mature enough to decide to have a human life ripped out of their body ( not to mention being mature enough to take part in the forming of that human life) but a 16 year old wielding a knife is just a baby.
The mental gymnastics these people go through is exhausting.
In the real world there are no jobs these people are capable of doing ,so jobs are made up for them and they are well paid for them.
Still, one of my favorite JB songs and written when he was apt neighbors to Glenn Frey & Don Henley.
It wasn’t Henley. It was JD Souther.
I’ve read differing versions - Frey/Henley and Frey/Souther.
Henley always made more sense since he and Frey acknowledged they leaned the art of songwriting from JB.
As a 19 y/o who just moved from Ohio, my Hollywood apt was a 10 minute drive to the Troubadour Club when they all played in their early careers.
“Time of my life, eh kid?”
That said...
JD Souther wrote quite a few classics including when he and Linda Ronstadt were cohabitating.
Shamu barfs one up!
Apparently then there were about twenty cameras pointed at her.
Both of whom have earned master's degrees in Golden Corral.
I think the 8 inch blade adultafied her
JD Souther’s solo album “Black Rose” is a GREAT collection of his songs.
Arguably, his cover of “Faithless Love” is THE definitive version and far better than his then girlfriend’s cover.
VERY nice live duet with another talented fellow songwriter, Matraca Berg:
