I’ve lived in Minneapolis my entire life. I’m leaving Friday. I no longer recognize my hometown.

Minneapolis is my home. My happiest memories are here. It’s where I learned to ride a bike, had my first date, received my high school diploma.

But today, I’m too afraid to even walk in my neighborhood by myself.

The ACE Hardware down the street? The one that I used to bike to in the summer? Robbed twice in the past five days.

The Walgreens next to my elementary school? Molotov cocktail thrown into it.

The Lake Harriet Bandshell, where we spent countless Mother’s Days? Homeless encampment popped up next door.

These are the things you don’t read about in the news.

Ten minutes from my house, at 38th and Chicago, there is still an autonomous zone. Police are not allowed to enter. Residents have died because medical authorities couldn’t get through, and carjackers (of which there are MANY) will speed into the zone to escape officer pursuit.

My favorite dinner theater canceled its production of Cinderella because it was “too white.”

My church — my beloved, tiny, Lutheran church — organized social justice marches for our congregation while refusing to reinstate in-person services (they’re still virtual, by the way).

And how about the week of the 2020 riots?

We lived under a curfew for days while looters seemingly roamed freely. Friends fled their home at 3:30 a.m. because the auto parts store behind them was on fire. And then we watched in horror as our City Council members demanded that the city defund the police — as they hired armed security for themselves.

I no longer recognize Minneapolis. I no longer want to live here. We are done, and I am leaving.

I’ve spent the past year watching this city crumble. Burning it wasn’t enough, I guess. Every day, I watched another piece of sanity and stability fall to the hysterical, bloodthirsty, self-righteous mob.

You distinguish between rioters and protestors? Racist. You do not want Marxist-inspired racial justice theories to be promoted in schools? Racist. You thought that maybe “Justice for George Floyd” should be left to the courts, and not mob rule? Super, super racist.

And where were our leaders providing stability and calm and confidence in the system? Nowhere to be found. What we did find were crazed politicians spouting fire and brimstone (I’m looking at you, Maxine Waters and John Thompson) and leaving us to pay the price.

Let me be clear: this city’s demise wasn’t just violent protests and burning buildings, or crime skyrocketing and businesses fleeing. It was also political indoctrination, hypocritical leadership, and the suppression of oppositional thought.

Any condemnation of the violence was denounced as “racist.” Billboards stating simply “Support MN Police” were brutally vandalized. Schools supported BLM walkouts for their students, then shut down in-person classes for fear of violent riots.

And all of this happened against the backdrop of our illogical, inconsistent, overly oppressive COVID-19 restrictions.

It’s easy to look at (for lack of a better word) disaster zones like these and mentally distance yourself from them. Yeah, that’s awful, but those people choose to live there. They’re the ones electing these leaders. This is their problem.

Yeah, it is. It is our problem.

And I can’t help but look around and wonder, “What happened here? Where exactly did it all go wrong?”

Was it the liberal mob? Identity politics? The cries of “RACIST!” when someone disagreed with a particular reaction or policy?

Was it conservative silence as the loudest voices got more and more radical?

Was it our acceptance that “we live in a blue area, this is just the way things are?”

How did it all happen so fast?

Whatever it was, I’m leaving this dark, surreal, twisted version of Minneapolis on Friday. And I pray to God that I never have to come back.

The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

Those two lines strike me as particularly apropos for our times. Maybe it has always been so... but maybe not.

Hey, thanks for giving me another thread to view. I happened to work all day today and after, being tired, was able to have supper at 9pm (before getting up at 5am tomorrow) — you saved me the trouble of going thru countless threads trying to locate the first posting. I really appreciate your concern for those of us who just can’t find the time or energy to guess topics and headlines and do a full search before we decide what is appropriate for us to peruse. Many many thanks. (/s)

Portland, Maine is in Cumberland County.

It is THE hotbed of the Chinese virus in Maine. Also the hotbed of liberalism, refugees from third world countries, etc.

Most of the state is rural, pro-Trump and pro-Second Amendment.

People are moving here in droves from Massachusetts, New York, Connecticut, even California to get away from big city crimes. Plus, Maine has a lot of elbow room and those moving here like that as well.

The real estate agents are so busy here that many of them don’t even answer their phones anymore. They can’t handle the volume of business and potential business.

I don’t know when this country will wake up. I’m not even sure it will. Not coincidentally with soroznazi pulling so many strings, we are going down the same path to perdition that Germany did in the 30’s.

I could not agree more with your take on those two lines. Previously they were just a poem. Now they are prophetic.

It was Republican silence, led by Mr. Rise-Above-it-All, GW Bush.

The Communist Left planned this takeover of Minnesota about 80 years ago and never let up on their hopes and schemes to achieve their goals.

Look at the Governor, Mayor, many of their leftist Police Chiefs, a Marxist-ridden, if not dominated City Council, hardcore communists teaching in their schools esp. the universities, black rioters given free range to bring their own brand of racist-terrorism on anyone that disagreed with them or who spoke out for peace.

I, for one, never planned to visit Minneapolis unless on official government assignment. Thanks to COVID and the Marxist fools and terrorists who rule and ruin the city, I’ll never come there. The govt couldn’t pay me enough to risk my life trying to help a bunch of street psychopaths, criminals, racists, Marxists, and cowards.

My attitude is, “Let it burn”. I’m sorry for the decent people who live there and may not be able to get out. If you voted “Democrat”, “You chose poorly” and are now paying for it.

If you tried to keep the city politically balanced, you were either overwhelmed by the Left/money/thuggery, you didn’t do enough to campaign against all this, or you were cowards/cowed into submission.

My family is seriously thinking of leaving our state and heading further south where the Reds don’t hold much power (but they’re always trying. Maybe there I can help stop the “Red Tide” and I don’t mean the algae.

At least our DAs won’t be paid Marxist Soros whores who love the criminals more than the law.

Any we will be packing, not just our possessions.

We need to understand that we are refugees. We don’t live in the same country we grew up in. The takers and the 3rd world goons have won. We no longer have a functioning court system, election system, political system, educational system, informational system (press), economic system, etc...

I have moved 2 times in my adult life. Both times I was moving from places that were being taken over by leftists. I moved when I realized that the majority of the people I lived around did not share my 1st world, European values. They believed in tribalism, might-makes-right, ends justify the means, racial identity politics, socialism, etc....

The first time I moved from a middle class suburb to a wealthy suburb. It was a little better but over time the rich suburb was taken over by GWB’s and Obama’s H1B Visa recipients. I then moved to a rural area 30 minutes outside the city so that I could raise my kids around like minded people. I am certain that within 10 years or so, the area I am in will be taken over by leftists fleeing from the violent cities.

At that time, I will move again to somewhere else. I only have one life to live and it is too short to spend it trying to battle with people who hate me and my family because of our conservative beliefs or skin color.

I also understand that at some point there will be nowhere left to run and at that time people will be forced to fight. I hope that is long after I am gone.

Any areas in Oklahoma with relative inexpensive housing? I prefer being away from the cities- but not way out in the country.

I would not mind growing more chickens too- I currently have 50. But in real life I am a computer systems software engineer

There are a lot of small towns, not too far from Tulsa or Oklahoma City. Land is high here, although that’s a relative thing. What I think is high, may seem low compared to other parts of the country. I’d surf the net, if I were you, to see what kind of listings there are within a 50 mile radius of Tulsa or Oklahoma City. Some small towns have restrictions on how many chickens you can have. Our little town only allows 5 hens per property, and NO roosters. Of course, if you’re outside the city limits, there’s no limit.
