Critical Care America vs the World (Your tax dollars at work)
PBS ^ | 4/1/2021 | PBS NewsHour

Posted on 04/22/2021 8:24:55 AM PDT by Oshkalaboomboom

Millions of Americans have no health insurance, and live in fear that one illness could bankrupt them. Even though the U.S. spends far more on health care than other high-income nations, Americans still die of preventable diseases at greater rates. The PBS NewsHour special “Critical Care: America vs the World,” examines how other nations achieve universal care for less money, with better outcomes.

What is the official propaganda wing of the government trying to set us up for this time?

The story is a lie.

See EMTALA (Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act)

No one can be refused treatment if they go to any public hospital whether they have insurance or the money to pay for services.

If everyone dies 6 months early we wouldn’t have this problem. The money goes to extending la ower quality of life due to no death panels.

Just don’t pay your bills.
What’s the problem?

“Tax Dollars” is a misconception. The government does not run on taxes, it runs on deficits, and taxes are used to pay interest and principal on that deficit. As long as the government has the ability to run on credit, any objection you might have as to how your “tax dollars” are being spent is moot.

>>Americans still die of preventable diseases at greater rates.

Most Americans die of preventable diseases that are caused by poor lifestyle choices, and can be fixed with zero new healthcare dollars.

Americans eating less, exercising more, keep their weight down, only use moderate, if any, alcohol and illicit drugs and no smoking and a whole lot less ‘junk’ foods would do much, much more to prevent dying from ‘preventable diseases’ than expanding health care.

If your plan is to sit around all day watching TV, weigh 400lbs, get drunk everynight and smoke cigarettes like a chimney - then dying of ‘preventable diseases’ is your choice.

Indeed.
We need a law to ban illicit drugs.
And McDonald’s.

Oh, BS. People without any insurance in the USA get cancer treatment weeks faster than anyone on the Canuck’s killer “healthcare”. Why do you trink so many Canuck’s come to the USA who can afford it. The cancer survival rate in the US is double that of Canada. Someone diagnosed with cancer in Canada waits weeks to start treatment.

PBS is a lying propaganda outlet. They are murdering criminals and agents of the CCP.

LEFTists look at this (and any problem) from a top-down, make a law/program/policy viewpoint. Pre-FDR/LBJ USofA was taught bottom-up local solutions FIRST, then widen the net to State and last to Federal. This reduces overhead and encourages more self and less group, more family and less class!

Alas, as the LEFT has well learned, it REDUCES their power, their programs! Their advocates in academia, media, welfare and government have long sought to destroy individual senses of responsibility in favor of the ‘Victim’ status. Directing this victimhood to various social groups allows and encourages single-issue politics, especially when issues are never presented in any perspective.

Our medical system was fine until state and federal governments came in to “fix” it.

Fiat currencies and money printing is just a highly respected form of theft.

Emergency medical care is covered by EMTALA, not all medical care.

“No one can be refused treatment if they go to any public hospital whether they have insurance or the money to pay for services.”

They have to exam you throughly.

They don’t have to treat non-emergency conditions like cancer.

#4: "Just don’t pay your bills. What’s the problem?"Just don’t pay your bills. What’s the problem?"

Depends on your skin color. If you are brown or black, not a problem.

If you are white or yellow, they will come after you hammer and tongs, and even put a lien on your burial plot.

“Our medical system was fine until state and federal governments came in to “fix” it.”

It has always had problems.

However, states and the federal governments have massively magnified many problems by mindless meddling.

When I was borne in the hospital in 1968 my mother and I stayed for two nights in the hospital. The final bill for everything was about $200 without any insurance at all. That works out to about $1,600 in today’s fiat script.

We are being robbed.

The traditional NHS system gave annual patient demographic related capitation grants to regional (and specialized) trusts.

These NHS trusts were and are very much like iNova(Northern Virginia), Sutter(San Francisco), Partners(Boston) and Mayo and Cleveland Clinic.

It would be very easy to transform the US health care system into a traditional NHS copy.

As I remember, the cancer care for Nixon’s father in the late 1950’s came to around $3,000 back then.

That would be about $40,000 in 2021 dollars.

Nixon could afford it, but Nixon understood that many Americans couldn’t.

The problem is not so much access (although in many areas private hospitals will patch-up an ER patient before forwarding them onto the public hospitals) as much as it is bankruptcy. Even if you have insurance, you may get slammed with thousands of dollars in costs, and worst of all have no idea of what your costs will be even for elective procedures because you do not know how the providers will bill or exactly which providers you will be using (anesthesiologists, radiologists, etc.).

Germany has fee-for-service like we do with a mix of public and private insurance, and with the exception of some high-tech cancer treatments, has outcomes as good as or better than ours. But the cost is 1/8 to 1/10 as much.
