Why the Shinnecock Tribe Is Clashing With the Hamptons' Elite
NY Times ^ | April 22, 2021 | Corey Kilgannon

For two decades, the Shinnecock Indian Nation has tried and failed to open a casino near Manhattan in the hope that a gambling hall would be an economic engine to wrest them from poverty and fund social programs.

Now the tribe has its eye on a new location: its home in the Hamptons.

The Shinnecock Hamptons Casino is expected to rise on the tribe’s reservation here on the East End of Long Island as early as 2023.

Feudalism !

Socialism is a form of feudalism. It’s feudalism dressed up in nice modern clothes rather then medieval pusffed pants & leggings ! State (King) controls, Elite class\Government Bureauacracy siphons off its share, the citzens (serfs) try to survive.

Without constant effort against society will drift back into what its always known - one person/group in control all others obey !

On Long Island, few Indians are “red men”.... but saying so makes me rasis!

Hopefully since it is reservation land immune from local ordinances they will have a large outdoor pavilion for late night concerts.

Just keeps getting better.

And since they pay no taxes, all the Wall St scumbags will have to pick up the tab for all the civil services that will be needed outside of the place. Imagine all the traffic rolling through, parking needed, tour buses everywhere...AWESOME!!!!!!

Smart move - force the Hampton elites to lean into the politicians so the tribe can get their casino in New York City.

“Bleeding heart liberals” who are “sympathetic” to the oppressed....I’m about to hurl.

If this doesn’t put the leftist mindset on display with a brass band and klieg lights, I don’t know what could. They “tsk tsk” all day, but just don’t litter where WE live, eh?

Frauds.

The group called the casino out of character with its residential surroundings and said it would lead to increased traffic, as well as possible noise problems, disturbances and crime.

And is it OK(?) for the feds to jam low-income housing in suburbia?
Clearly "out of character with its residential surroundings".

There is a 10-acre parcel near us for sale, we are very concerned.
WE used to live in Bloomingdale, Il a nice area.
A developer wanted to build some four-plus-ones, first-floor commercial in an unincorporated strip next to the village.

A few of the locals protested and the village turned them down.
The rules are different for federal housing; so that is what was built.

We were a few blocks distant from the new 'project apartments'.

Suddenly we had strangers walking through our yard??? There was a nearby school with a large unused parking lot. A permit is required for the low-income lot.

When my wife ran into a stranger in our backyard on her way to work and our BBQ disappeared from our deck; we moved.

#30 Chief Wild Eagle explains how the tribe got its name: “Many moons ago, tribe leave Massachusetts because Pilgrims ruin neighborhood! Tribe travel west, over stream, over river, over mountain, over mountain, over river, over stream!

Then come big day... tribe fall over cliff. That when Hekawi get name. Medicine man say to my ancestor, “I think we lost. Where the heck are we?”.

“Where the heck are we?” became “We’re the Hekawi”

Ever notice all the Indian names for towns on the Island? Wholebunchalotta bands lived out there.
Soyossett, Massapequa, Mineola. Just like Rockland County where I grew up, Monsey, Nyack, Ramapo, etc.

I understand they wanted to be the Fugawi, but the censors wouldn’t allow that.

[“A lot of us are bleeding-heart liberals and sympathetic to the oppressed, and we understand their attempt for economic development,” said a homeowner in the group, James Wacht. “But it’s not the right location.”]

Liberals don’t want it in THEIR neighborhoods!

Hilarious.
