Alarms sounded in Abu Qrenat near Dimona in southern Israel early Thursday morning, the IDF's Spokesperson's Unit reported.
Residents from nearby villages reported hearing "loud explosions" that "shook the houses."

I bet you saw a picture of a Israeli weapons (missile) test that went sideways. That happened early this morning/late last night at a IDF base which I think is a ways from here (but I’m not certain on the location). The ground explosion was immense.
It was the ‘Tomer Factory’ I believe.

The Iron Dome and similar systems are truly incredible. Hopefully they can and will knock out any incoming missiles that threaten the nuclear plant and Israeli cities.
I’ll wait for more information before speculating that Iran is behind this :-)
But what amazes me is not just how effective the anti-missile/anti-rocket technology is, but how humane it is. If Israel did not possess these technologies they would be forced to take ever more drastic measures including air strikes and ground invasions. Every time they intercept a missile in the air, they are not only saving the lives of their own people but also the lives of the people who launched the missile.

I was billeted in the GZ 04-05, 06-07. That summer & fall of ‘06 was intense.....multiple daily rocket & mortar attacks.
According to the IDF Spokesperson, a Syrian surface-to-air missile was fired at an Israeli aircraft and instead fell in southern Israel. It did not intentionally target a specific site. In response, Israeli aircraft hit the battery that fired the missile and several others.
Brig.Gen. Hidai Zilberman later told reporters that the explosion was due to the firing of an SA-5 surface to air missile that was fired towards Israel and that it exploded in the southern Negev.
The firing of the missile came during Israeli air strikes in the south of Syria. The missile was not directed towards any target, Zilberman said.
According to the spokesman, Israel responded to the firing of the SA-5 towards IAF jets by striking several anti aircraft batteries in Syria, including the one which fired the missile that exploded in southern Israel.
Maybe conflicting info. Seems that the Syrian army were firing at Israeli jets, either intentionally or by accident but more likely intentionally since Israel was bombing at the time. They missed and the missile landed in the desert or was intercepted in the desert.
What was Israel’s primary target though? Says they took out anti-aircraft batteries but was that the reason they were in the air in the first place?
I’ll note that Russia sent a suicide drone into a Syrian based ISIS convoy the other day, killing perhaps as many as 200 people if I got the story right.
Sounds like the IAF was operating when fired upon and launched a second strike this time at the SAM site?
