Shingles is devastating for adults who weren’t exposed to chicken pox as a child. It means certain death. Shingles for those of us who were exposed is still no walk in the park.
That is why I actually took the two dose shingles vaccine in December and March. The first dose made me feel not so great the next day. The second dose I purposely took on a Friday afternoon. I felt absolutely horrible the next day. I hardly left the house. It hurt to move.
I don’t usually get any flu shots and will have to be dragged kicking and screaming to get a covid shot.
The rare exception for me is the shingles vaccine. I got the vaccine and the booster.
My aversion to the vaccine bandwagon goes back to the 90’s when I ran right out to get the Lymerix vaccine. I was living in the woods in CT - and was finding ticks on my dogs and myself almost daily. Within a couple years - Lymerix got pulled because it was allegedly giving people Lyme disease. I don’t think I’ve been affected negatively, and there are the usual counter arguments in support of Lymerix. Ya never know.
Really? Certain death, huh? You watch CNN, don't you? Admit it. You're a secret CNN watcher.

The shingles vaccine is one that I've not gotten yet. Guess I'll have to wait a while after the 2nd COVID jab this Friday.
I wonder if the kids nowadays that are vaccinated against chickenpox can get shingles later in life?
I take anti virals everyday as a prophylactic for shingles (due to immune system issues). For 5 years now. Need to get the new shingles vaccine so I can get off of the meds.
Shingles is caused by re-activation of the varicella zoster virus for those that have had chicken pox.
Are you saying that it’s devastating to those who have had chicken pox as adults or for those that have not had chicken pox at all? Because you can’t get shingles if you’ve never had chicken pox.
Oddly enough, I didn't contract chicken pox until I was in the Army. I caught it from my room mate and was quarantined at the base hospital for 10 days.
What was really weird tho, all the skin on the palm of my hands peeled off leaving them super sensitive to anything I touched.
You aren’t getting Shingles from the shot...
The shot is triggering the existing virus, that you have in your body if you had Chicken Pox, to activate... Most likely by weakening the immune system in some way that allows the virus to exit dormant stage.
Agree I got the Shingrix vaccine a couple years ago.
The first dose put me in bed for 3 days.
10 times more side effect compared to Moderna Covid vax.
