Summary:
Researchers have injected human stem cells into primate embryos and were able to grow chimeric embryos for a significant period of time -- up to 20 days. The research, despite its ethical concerns, has the potential to provide new insights into developmental biology and evolution. It also has implications for developing new models of human biology and disease.Investigators in China and the United States have injected human stem cells into primate embryos and were able to grow chimeric embryos for a significant period of time -- up to 20 days. The research, despite its ethical concerns, has the potential to provide new insights into developmental biology and evolution. It also has implications for developing new models of human biology and disease. The work appears April 15 in the journal Cell.

From my perspective that doesn't make it any less horrible.
I have no doubt what is going in in secret is worse than this. It wouldn’t surprise if some of them have been born..
“Because we can” isn’t a good enough answer.
I have always nursed a secret suspicion that the human beings on this earth are the result of aliens doing a little gene splicing between swine and chimpanzees, the difference between human beings and chimpanzees being the exogenous swine genes.
It would explain a lot. Just hastening “creationism” along a little.
It is possible that mastodons and other extinct beasts could be re-created by using frozen cells from those that died in Siberia, with modern-day elephants and other related species.
““Because we can” isn’t a good enough answer.”
It’s not just ‘because we can’. It’s ‘because we can publish this in Cell and look like we’re hotshot scientists.
A big part of the blame for the directions science has been going, and the lack of integrity, belongs to the journal editors and publishers and to the universities who reward sensationalism and self-promotion - not quality. There is nothing difficult about doing this study, and it’s not really science in the strict sense (e.g., what precise hypothesis are they testing?). It’s just technology and sensationalism.
I had a stem cell transplant. My sister donated her stem cells to me. My DNA now shows as my sisters. Just to give some context to this experiment of theirs.
after seeing the way mad maxine acts i get the impression this has been going on for quite some time...
Stem cells translated from an adult are an entirely different natter from mixing pulped fetuses.
Groundwork for strong, compliant slaves?
I thought the UN banned this type of activity. /sarc
First , it did not survive very long. About 20 days
Next The embryo may very well grow with human DNA. I can nit see why it would not. Unless you have something formal to refer me to.
I have a poster of this scene with the years 1776-2020 in my home office.
The USA is dead Jim.
Not satisfied with importing Democrats, now they’re growing them in labs.
Nothing good is going to come from this kind of tinkering....
Human ape hybrids help to fill out the menu for those who prey on humanity
Humans are abducted as children, tortured, sent everywhere and may or may not remember they were taken. Foster care is a one way alley for human trafficking. Every kid crossing the border is a potential organ donor now or at some time in the future. And if there are deep underground military/science bases serving as holding pends for thousands of young adults and children, they need to be exterminated.
The song, "I'm My Own Grandpa" comes to mind.
Mixing would create smarter humans in some areas. At least animals protect their young and not send them with a smuggler to where ever.
It wouldn't surprise me if they've already been trained in a manual of arms.
There is a Dean Koontz book that came out this year "Elsewhere" in which the protagonist is given a device that allows him and his daughter to slip into other parallel time streams. Two of the more creepy ones were one in which AI/robotics had gone full terminator and wiped out humanity. The other, a fascistic world where people had "Best Pets". Basically hybrid humanzees that could speak a few words, and do household chores, but also tear apart anybody who was insufficiently fascist.
This is what evil truly looks like.
