If he was indeed guilty and did molest the girl, he might have offed himself.
If this is just a vicious lie being used by an ex-wife to gain traction in court, which often happens, then perhaps he snapped and took out the guilty parties.
I can tell you, not from personal experience, but men think about this. They could just easily shoot did their mean vicious ex-wife and be out in 10 years. Or they could go through the divorce process and never recover for the rest of their lives.

Rapidly developing news stories evolved quickly when it suddenly came out about the suspect, like in Blazing Saddles with the news of the new sheriff being, uh, well, being....
"...retired from the Travis County Sheriff’s Office last year after being charged and jailed for allegedly molesting the girl, the Austin American-Statements reported."
It's the Austin American-Statesman. It's right at the link provided in the story.
I'll be charitable and surmise that Jorge Fitz-Gibbon wrote and then submitted the story from his phone.
Fox news cut in with the story that 2 hispanics and 1 black were killed and that police were looking for the gunman. No mention of the race of the shooter. A very strange way to tell a story.
In Austin, he probably was selected over 50 more qualified white applicants for his detective gig, because “diversity”.
Weird for the media to show a mug shot and not a Police uniform photo. Mighty white of them.
