Folks please remember, the National Guard , while having many competent and able people in its ranks, is NOT Delta Force. Most of the units making up the Guard are support units, NOT combat or MP units. And in most cases they don’t even have ammo.
Years ago, I was working with the US Marshals on a nationwide sweep done every year. LEOs all over the country, for one week tracking down felons and sex offenders. One team went out, shot a guy. There were two Guard members assigned to the team, not involved in the shooting. Weren’t even in the house. They were pulled from the detail that day.
Anyone familiar with that neighborhood KNOWS what the perps look like.
Maybe not hero.
But that doesn’t change the fact that they were shot at, injured and most likely did not have the means to fire back.
Nor would their ROEs probably allow it.
