West Point has expelled eight cadets and held 51 back a year after 73 were accused in the military academy's biggest cheating scandal in more than four decades.
The cadets were accused of cheating on an online freshman calculus exam in May while students were studying remotely because of the coronavirus pandemic.
An investigation was launched after instructors noticed irregularities in answers. All but one were freshmen, or plebes, in a class of 1,200. The other was a sophomore.
West Point said that of the 73 cases investigated by the cadet honor committee, six cadets resigned during the investigation, four were acquitted by a board of their peers, and two cases were dropped due to insufficient evidence.
Most of the cadets, 51, were 'turned back' one full year after admitting to cheating, and two were turned back six months. Those cadets are under probation until graduation.
Lt. Gen. Darryl A. Williams, West Point's superintendent, personally adjudicated each case.

It is unfair to punish these cadets while the cheating Democrats are allowed to roam free in DC.

Possibly. But as I recall when this broke, few of the entire group fitted into that category.
Having to take calculus all over again is punishment enough :)
They should all been expelled.
I suspect most of them got there by cheating. Cheating is no longer frowned upon in public schools.
So when they arrive at West Point, they just continue the practice that got them there in the first place.

If you don’t understand calculus it is going to be more difficult understanding subsequent math and science courses. You are really digging hole in many career paths.

Cheating is now apparently an important life skill, so what better place to hone your skills than school? Perhaps it should be graded.
