Philippine President Duterte asked to confront China in South China Sea

Philippine foreign policy experts and lawmakers have asked President Rodrigo Duterte to end his "policy of subservience" towards China, saying the Filipino leader's silence is leading to hundreds of Chinese vessels lining up in Manila's exclusive economic zone (EEZ) in the South China Sea.

Though military chief and country's top diplomat have asked China to withdraw its vessels from the region, Duterte has maintained his silence over the issue.

Earlier his spokesperson said that the Filipino president is pursuing "diplomatic initiatives" in "private".

On Thursday, the Philippine Coast Guard said that despite continual demands to Chinese vessels to leave Whitsun Reef, at least 240 Chinese vessels were present in the area till Wednesday, Al Jazeera reported.

The ships were first seen on March 7 at Whitsun Reef, which is about 320 km (200 miles) west of Palawan Island and in the Philippine EEZ, according to the International Court of Arbitration at The Hague.

China’s always flooding the waters with their ships and they’re always complaining about it......what makes this different than all the other times?

President Duterte isn’t the sharpest knife in the drawer, but even he knows he can’t depend on the US for help when Beijing China Joe is already ahead of him in line kissing Chairman Xi’s behind!

The things you tolerate, are the best behavior you will get.
China does not want to cross the Rubicon and invade the Philippines.
Though there is no current treaty that I know of, China probably knows that would cost them dearly and drag in others in direct ways they won’t like, including militarily.

Duterte should make the demand, set a 3 day deadline, and send his navy out to start singing them. Just the way he did with the drug dealing gangsters.

Sink them. Evacuate then and then scuttle them.

RE: Philippine foreign policy experts and lawmakers have asked President Rodrigo Duterte to end his “policy of subservience” towards China,

How is Duterte going to do that with his puny military?

The only way he can do this is to form military alliances with other similarly threatened countries - Vietnam, South Korea, Japan, Australia, India and (if he can swallow his pride since he’s been distancing from us ), the USA.

Otherwise, he’ll have to continue to hope and pray China doesn’t swallow his country next after they invade Taiwan.

Send him some vaccines that work, US vaccines.

But Xi wouldn’t like Joey doing that so he won’t.
Duterte will have to bow to Xi- or get his own Nukes- since he has no reliable ally against Xi. Well, maybe Japan.

Duterte is making his bed.   He'll lie and likely die in it.

Duterte had his chance to make a security assistance deal with Trump that would have included Subic Bay, and he kept playing both sides.

Enjoy having the Chinese eat your fish.

Nothing “probably” about it. A rich Communist Chinese backer paid for his campaign.

While every flight and foreigner was banned from the Philippines (including permanent residents and all airports shut March to July last year, Chinese continued flights to Davao (Duterte’s home city)

While mining was banned, Chinese were allowed to mine

When Boracay (world-famous resort island) was closed to all, including Filipinos, it reopened to only rich Chinese and a huge casino project.

Parts of Manila Bay are off-limits to all, including Filipinos. Only Chinese and Chinese POGOs were allowed.

Duterte is demanding Filipinos take only the Sinovac vaccine. You seen how effective it was in Brazil...

Every SONA, and prior covid briefing, he declared his undying love of Xi and China.

I can go on and on with Duterte’s love of Xi
