A North Carolina Spanish teacher and coach reportedly had a secret life and was killed during a shootout with a drug cartel last week, according to the police.
Alamance County Sheriff Terry Johnson said Barney Harris along with a friend, Steven Alexander Stewart, shot and killed an 18-year-old member of the Sinaloa New Generation Cartel, which led to a shootout with other cartel members, local outlet WSOC-TV reported....

We are a nation of good ideas, but ripping off a drug cartel is not among the best of ideas.

I’ve seen that movie, it never turns out well.
It is the consequences of trying to control that which can not ever be controlled.
Prohibition should have taught us that.
Alamance county only a few years ago was a nice clean area. Combining I-40 and I-85 through there makes it a perfect place to distribute drugs.
Add to that UNC, Duke, NC State and the Golden Triangle and you have a good local market.
I don’t think there is a single day that we don’t read about a serious crime in that area, yet is has a relatively small population.
The drug war has taken over.
For such an exciting, 007 type of existence, the teacher had a ‘grey as wallpaper’ kind of name; “Barney Harris”.

I don’t know, but it could have been the best idea Harris ever had.
I thought it ended pretty good. One less drug drug dealer. One more local hero [the beloved drug dealer] One less cartel member. Everyone wins. He proved that he had the i.q. to be a teacher because he was stupid enough to believe he could rip off the cartel and get away with it. He could made principle in 10 days. With teachers such as this, no wonder the students are so dumb.
Taking that off my to-do list.

That’s why the cartels want a ban against modern sporting rifles here (a so-called assault weapons ban). It would pave the way to them being able to control communities all over this country, as they do in Mexico.
As it is now, they don’t want to get into a firefight with anyone who is armed with a semiautomatic rifle and has no drug or other criminal involvement. That would ignite an open season on them in small towns or rural areas.
Interesting in light of the 2020 election controversy.
The DEA called Atlanta the cartel’s hub, connecting to Charlotte, Raleigh and then the coast.

It’s not hard to control the drug problem and the rest of it. Just takes a little sweat, some good strong prisons and the death penalty.

The very reason Hollywood or whoever puts on shows glorifying teachers making drugs trailers is exactly what you’re reading in this Hill article.
Yes indeedy, these Hollywood types, their criminal cronies and the drug cartels can be controlled.
The way to control it from the other end is to put as much into educating the public as we do into brainwashing them.
Instead of attaching glamor to being a meth dealer, we should point out how weak and stupid it is to want to emulate any of these lowlifes coming from Hollywood.
