Orange County will not require a vaccine ‘passport’ following a backlash, officials say

When Orange County announced last week that it would be starting a vaccine “passport” pilot program this month, it caused uproar among some residents who believe it would encroach on their freedom.

The announcement came amid a national conversation over potential government-issued vaccine passports, which the state and federal government aren’t requiring.

About 200 residents showed up to speak at an Orange County Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday to voice their opposition to the county’s program. Orange County Health Care Agency Director Clayton Chau and the supervisors sought to allay their concerns before the public comment period.

Chau said the county isn’t requiring a vaccine passport, but the agency is planning to offer a digital vaccination record for residents who request it. The record will likely be in the form of a scannable QR code in the Othena app, which the county has used for scheduling coronavirus testing and COVID-19 vaccinations.

Chau said the digital record can be useful because private businesses may require customers to be vaccinated.

I don't know who the Clayton Chau is, but he sounds -- to me -- like a despicable weasel.

private businesses may require customers to be vaccinated.

If they do, they won’t be getting my business.

Exactly. I expect I’ll be almost 100% online shopping and food delivery. A bunch more physical store/restaurant workers will lose their jobs. Probably some of them voted for President Trump but guessing more did not. Too bad, so sad.

The problems start when one of those businesses is your employer.

I only use an old style minute phone (Trac-fone) which does not recognize QR codes. Or allow fancy apps. So I would be shunned and face oblivion and shame.

Or sign up for annual phone plan to go with my other bills.
But I have no friends and no family I call or get calls from. Cell phone text and talk would have zero use for me all year. No need for how many minutes on a plan-—I never talk on the phone except mandatory replies about medical and dental appointments.

No justification for “passports” at all. Maybe for international travel.
The virus no longer has “community spread”.

So, even in the most hard-core ‘medical” regime it can be handled with “track and trace”.
Remember when the medical community hyped “track and trace”?
Well, it’s no good when a virus is raging in community spread, but a proven successful tool when spread is limited.

And, besides, the epidemic is as good as over.

"won't be getting my business"

A newly opened Popeyes told me I had to have a mask inside.

As I walked out, I told the mgr they will never get a dime from me.

Your governor rescinded the mask requirement, right?

I can’t see why any business, especially a restaurant, would still want their patrons in mask.

In a restaurant what’s the point. The patron wears the mask from the door to a table and takes off the mask. Then eats. Puts the mask back on until they are out the door.

Over 90% of the time the customer is in the establishment they are not wearing a mask.

Even assuming (which I disagree with) that mask are beneficial in limiting contagion, the customer is unprotected 90% or more of the time.

If the store manager is at all intelligent he is doing it for cover you’re a$$ optics.

“...private businesses may require customers to be vaccinated”.

Private citizens may require lawsuits to be filed and perhaps criminal charges as well.

These “vaccines” are highly experimental.

No one can be coerced or forced against their will to participate or be subject to medical experiments.

Per: Nuremberg Code. U.S. is a party to it.

OMG! I thought I was the only one. I love my Tracfone for that very reason. People would like for me to get a smart phone, but for what? I do not speak with family except for my brother and a cousin. As for friends, forget it. How did we ever survive before the cell phone?

Yesterday, a Barnes & Noble employee told me I needed a mask in their empty store, due to store "edict" (the local rules were canceled by Gov. Ducey, finally). I told him I guess I will be going to a different store, and walked out. I doubt the hireling cared, and I am doubtful that the local non B&N bookstores will be any better, but that one didn't want my business.

People would like for me to get a smart phone, but for what?

A smartphone is a calculator, a camera, a game player, a dictaphone, a movie camera, a gps, a browser, e-mail, a pocket atlas, a calendar, a watch, an mp3 player, a video player that fits in your pocket. For years I wanted those without the phone, so I got an iPod Touch. Work provides me with a smartphone now. The phone/messaging part is the nuisance.

I don’t understand how they can do this with an experimental vaccine that isn’t even approved.

True...probably 95+% of the time.

Maybe they'll just do this, from across The Pond...

Pensioner turned away from his local pub because he doesn't have smartphone A VULNERABLE pensioner was denied entry to a pub for an outdoor pint - because he doesn't own a smartphone.

Big Tech has already systematically deplatformed a number of conservatives. Big Banks and payment processors like Paypal have cut off people like Laura Loomer and Pamela Gellar, too.

They will “accidentally” flip your status to infected or delete the vaccine passport app on their targets, just as they “accidentally” disable their Twitter accounts regularly.

It hurts you more, because you can’t get an Uber or go to the grocery store ...
