Nevada is setting a goal of reopening all its counties at 100 percent capacity by June 1, Gov. Steve Sisolak announced on Tuesday.
Currently, masks and social distancing are required across the state. Nevada rules also generally limit occupancy for businesses and gatherings at 50 percent.
Individual counties might opt to fully reopen earlier, after they are set to be granted power on May 1 to make decisions over COVID-19 mitigation measures, Sisolak noted. County school districts will also be able to decide on mitigation measures.
“We are aware that some counties may make the decision to move to 100 percent capacity as early as May 1 when they gain the authority, and others may not,” the Democratic governor said at a press conference on the state’s actions to combat the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus.
“Each county in Nevada is unique and two of seven have different factors to consider: rural or urban settings, community transmission rates in the area, and vaccine administration, among a few.”
The state government on May 1 will be removing the statewide required social distancing mandate—although counties may impose their own restrictions. But the statewide mask mandate will remain until at least June 1, Sisolak noted. No counties will be able to override the mandate.
“Outside of getting vaccinated, it’s still the best tool we have to prevent the spread,” Sisolak said of the mask mandate.
“I wish I could give all Nevadans an exact timeline as to when we can tuck away our masks—but public health officials made it clear that in order to reach our goal of reopening on June 1, we must make sure Nevadans stay masked,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Nevada Gaming Control Board will maintain supervision over gaming institutions—including casinos—throughout the state, Sisolak said. He didn’t specify whether the NGCB would allow reopening at full capacity by June 1.
Nevada on April 5 made all residents 16 and older eligible for CCP virus vaccines. Sisolak announced that as of April 13, 40 percent of people over the age of 16 in the Silver state “have started the vaccination process,” adding that about 25 percent are fully vaccinated.
He said that 65 percent of those aged 60 and over, and 75 percent of those aged 70 and older “have initiated or completed vaccination.”
Most businesses in Washoe county are sick of it. But I just ate breakfast at a place that is obviously owned by a democrat Karen. I am surprised there weren’t dobermans enforcing masks. You still have to wear them even at your table unless you are actively chewing or drinking. You still had to write your phone number and name down in their log so they can trace you in case somebody gets the sniffles. As far as I remember no other place did this except during the first couple of weeks. Food ok, but I prefer places with owners hostile to this nonsense. I have an overwhelming desire to troll and cough uncontrollably, but I wont.
Our Colorado County opens up Friday the 16th!
Casino interests must be sticking a hot poker up this rat’s butt to make him say this.
Massive Trade Shows - Conventions are planned for September - October in Vegas - the corrupt Governor must need the $$$.
Ah, the dictator speaks.
Took long enough already
if the Mob still ran them they never would have shut down.
The BEST weapon we have here in Nevada against Covid is the wind.
Anyone who lives in Nevada here, help me out—my senior HS CA son was accepted into UNLV. What are the odds that UNLV will have 100% in person classes in Fall 2021?
” No counties will be able to override the mandate”. Individuals will though. We’ll see in Virginia City this weekend. :-)
My guess is that most businesses will still require a mask.
The AH casino execs are requiring a vaccine or weekly submission of a negative test paid for by the employee. The Cosmo is requiring two tests a week at the expense of the employee. The Wynn, where my son works will start this at the end of April.
We have been looking into at home tests but most aren’t available yet and those that are available are cost prohibitive.
I have been applying for work, though not getting any responses, but I will not get the vaccine.
I hope it makes it into the courts quickly so that businesses are prohibited from this garbage.
I have a friend who works for UNLV. I will ask her this evening since she’s working now and I don’t want to disturb her.
Yeah the never ending mask mandate. At least in rural Nevada we are pretty much ignoring it except for stores
I lost my job at the start of all this along with hundreds of thousands of Nevadans. I haven’t worked since St. Patrick’s Day last year. I have been wearing my mask around my chin since the beginning of the mandate in June of last year. If I’m approached by an employee in the store, I just laugh and say, “Oh, did I forget to put my mask up?” and then when they walk away, I pull it down again.
I’ve had a few people say something. Once in Smith’s the little twerp they had manning the door followed me around the whole time I was in the store repeatedly asking me to put my mask up. I never went back to that one.
At Trader Joe’s they make you wait in line, have their mask Nazis all over the store but once inside it’s a free for all in the aisles. So stupid and pointless.
My poor husband has had to wear a mask and shield since the end of June last year. He is ready to retire so like me, he will only wear the stupid thing when absolutely forced to do so.
