Russia has warned the US to keep its warships away from Crimea 'for their own good' as it accused Washington and NATO of turning the region into a 'powder keg' amid soaring tensions on the Ukraine border.

Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov called Washington's decision to deploy two ships to the Black Sea 'a provocation' designed 'to test our nerves' as he branded the US 'an adversary' of Russia, ramping up a war of words between the two nuclear-armed superpowers.

The USS Donald Cook and USS Roosevelt, two Arleigh Burke-class destroyers, are thought to be on their way to the Black Sea from a naval base in Spain and due to arrive tomorrow and Thursday, according to Turkish sources which are responsible for policing the straits leading to the sea.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who met Ukraine's foreign minister in Brussels today for talks, responded that America 'stands firmly behind' its eastern European ally while NATO chief Jens Stoltenburg gave the alliance's 'unwavering support' to Kiev.

Why does August 1914 come to mind?

Biden is weak, Putin knows that. Americans have no belly for war, and much of that is justified.

Ukraine’s fate is sealed.

Billy Boy didn't want them to have them.

Since the collapse of the Berlin wall, our foreign policy has slowly painted Russia as evil. This propaganda hit a crescendo when DJT was elected. They apparently aren't conforming to the dictates of globalism, hence the recent saber rattling.

Go Putin!

Our stupid diplomats forced Ukraine to give up its nukes for a vague security guarantee. Just like in the Treaty of London where the great powers guaranteed Belgian neutrality.

Billy’s stupidity in breaking up Yugoslavia led to this mess.

I can be FDR now, and after I win WW III and the heartland is radioactive tundra, with all the deplorables dead or dying, I’ll win reelection in a landslide! Best part is, those damned cows will have stopped their incessant farting. Goody! Goody! Goody! Now where’s my chocolate pudding?

This will not end well — especially for Ukraine and probably us, too.

Yes, the region needs dictators (for lack of a better word) much like some countries in the Middle East.

Russia had no place to put their soldiers returning from the Warsaw Pact. It’s communism. The west on the other hand has plenty of housing. Just ask the illegals.

I didn’t know we have Burke destroyers based in Spain. I wonder if that would be Rota, Spain where I did some shore duty. At my time, we didn’t have any warships stationed there, but did have our own airstrip and other assets on the navy base. I think we actually leased the land and Spain had final authority over it. I could be wrong - too many years ago.

The British DID honor the 1839 treaty supporting Belguim by putting troops on the continent in 1914. Whether they should have or not makes for a fun pub debate over more then one beer.
OTOH France and GB said they would support Poland in 1939 and quite possibly could have attacked Germany in the west but did nothing.

“Since the collapse of the Berlin wall,”

You have to identify the teams. Before the collapse, the Democrats thought Russia was good. Afterwards, the Democrats and establishment thought Russia was bad. Except, of course, for GWB who thought for a time he could see Putin’s soul.

And the Democrats who basically helped Yeltsin cheat to victory in elections so the West could rob Russia blind. That’s what led to the rise of Putin.

All that did was to make Stalin and Hitler open to the idea of signing the Non-Agression Pact, Britain and France didn't see that one coming.
