At The Spectator’s data hub, updated daily, we keep track of the situation here and around the world. There have been several milestones recently: antibody levels hitting 55 per cent amongst the general population and above 85 per cent for pensioner-aged (who account for the vast majority Covid deaths).
Vaccination is paying off: the below graph shows a breakdown by age group. The under-65s are in red.
The UK vaccine rollout has been in the world’s top five. And for all its recent troubles, AstraZeneca has shown in real-world tests to be every bit as effective as suggested in trials — as evidenced by antibody growth. This morning we added another table, seeing where Covid infections are relative to their peak. Britain is now 97 per cent below the peak hit before lockdown — the sharpest decline in the developed world.

Did they ever determine how/why India’s cases plummeted awhile back?
Wave 2 looks an awful lot like wave 1. Just sayin’.
RE: Wave 2 looks an awful lot like wave 1. Just sayin’.
I bet the warmer weather will have something to do with it. Until October comes and we’re back to the nth wave again. This is looking like and has the characteristics of the seasonal flu to me.

It does seem to be following a seasonal pattern. It seems like heat doesn’t really kill it but summer seems to slow it down. I think once it gets into a home, it doesn’t matter how warm it is outside because it’s 69-70 degrees inside. Flu prefers winter because the cold temperature hardens the outer shell around the virus and makes it more “persistent” and therefore more likely to survive long enough to reach a susceptible host. I imagine Covid is similarly rendered less persistent by heat/summer but to a lesser extent then flu perhaps. It’s bat origins, IMO, likely make it more tolerant of heat given that a horseshoe bat’s temperature in flight gets up to around 106 degrees and the virus evolved to coexist with that.
That chart tells you everything you need to know about Rona.
It kills old people*
*and truth be told, they probably died of something else, but they tested positive for rona.
That looks just like a flu death curve...hmmm
the chinese and fauci have developed a strain that will end the invalid longevity of our most vulnerable and costly citizenry.
governments will no longer have to worry about paying out pensions or nursing home care costs and medicaid costs.
i do not put it past them.
Is it really possible to prove why rates are off, by just looking at numbers?
The U.S is back under 50k daily: https://covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-tracker/#trends_dailytrendscases
We had a bump, younger folks have been spreading it with little or no symptoms which is also why deaths have plummeted: https://covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-tracker/#trends_dailytrendsdeaths
It’s all over but the fat lady singing, we are administering 4-5 million doses per day.
Look, spikey colorful graphs and numbers galore. The whole COVID thing simple is rotten.
“Wave 2 looks an awful lot like wave 1. Just sayin’.”
Yep. It sure does! Wonder why they don’t talk about the last peak? I bet I know.
My guess is that it's a combination of the two. The two most vaccinated countries, Israel and the UK, are also the two countries with the biggest seasonal decrease. The decrease in the USA has also been very pronounced compared to European Union countries like Germany and France.
It’s hard to see a seasonal factor in the UK figures. The sharp decline began in midwinter, and for weeks now the temperatures have been unusually depressed for early spring. Daytime maxima stuck in the 40s F for most of the country, with overnight frosts and persistent easterly windchill. The opening matches of the professional cricket season this week were interrupted by snow at several grounds.
