February 1977 to October 15 1980. I was a MM3 and worked in what was called AC&R or Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Shop. I was also a charter member of what would become it's permanent Fire Department as a stand alone department. A HTCM came up with a permanent pooled department rather than the HT's catching all the fires. In return more people got trained for DC and fire fighting. I was One on One for 6 months.
Unfortunately for me though my last 11 months were spent in Portsmouth, VA at Norfolk Naval Shipyards for an extensive year long overhaul they compressed into about 10 months due to the Iranian Hostage Crisis. Long hours and 3 section for a while. I left the old girl right where I found her though LOL. When I went aboard they were two months into a 3 month yard period. Same pier same crappy Portsmouth.

I was a DC2 plankowner on the Puget Sound...We sailed out of Bremerton, WA in 1968, went through the Panama Canal and partied around in the Caribbean for a while, then went to Newport, RI...I transferred from there to Yosemite in 1970 in Mayport, FL to get back to real people in the south...LOL

I saw Mayport a couple times and liked it. Especially great because we could tie up at their carrier pier and I didn’t have to go T.A.D. to boatcrew LOL. No CV’s homeported there anymore. All east coast are out of NORVA now.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -According to Knoxville officials, a student at Austin-East High School has been identified as the suspect and person deceased in a shooting at Austin-East High School Monday afternoon.
TBI says, around 3:15 p.m. Monday, the Knoxville Police Department responded to a report of a possibly armed person with a gun at Austin-East Magnet High School.
Upon arrival, officers located the individual inside a school restroom. TBI officials say, officers ordered the individual out, but he refused to comply.
As officers entered the restroom, the suspect reportedly fired shots, striking an officer. Officials say, one officer returned fire.
The suspect has been identified as an Austin-East High School student and was pronounced dead at the scene. No information has been released if the returned fire struck the student.

Thank you for touching base, and for the kind words. Back when I first started teaching (mid-1980s), I wasn’t the exception to the rule. I was just one of many. We had tough administrators and many, many dedicated teachers.
The dedicated teachers are, by and large, still there. But the old guard administrators have been replaced by insanely “woke” social justice warriors. It is said that a fish rots from the head down. That’s what’s happening in public schools today.
