Study finds COVID variant affects vaccinated individuals more than unvaccinated

The South Africa variant of the coronavirus affects vaccinated individuals more than those who are unvaccinated, according to a new study from Tel Aviv University and Israel’s largest healthcare provider.

The study, which was published Saturday and still requires peer review, looked at 400 individuals who tested positive for the coronavirus despite receiving at least one dose of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine and compared the prevalence of the South African variant, B.1.351, with the same number of people who have not yet received a vaccination.

(snip)

Not only could the variant “break through” protections offered by the Pfizer vaccine, but it uniquely affects those who have been vaccinated (around eight times higher) than those who have not received the vaccine — 5.4% to 0.7%.

Stern said the result came as a surprise, based on larger patterns.

So healthy people have to wear the "bubble boy" suits like the immunocompromised people out of "fairness" now? Pass.

That is not what I said at all. Please read my posts before commenting on them.

I can see why you took the vaccine for your wife. However I do not know your wife from Adam. As far as I am concerned she needs to either wear a bubble suit or to stay home until she heals while I walk around mask free.

My mother does quarantine at home. However, I am not going to stop taking care of her, which is why I got the vaccine. Not sure why that's so controversial. Nowhere in my post did I advocate government mandated vaccinations, just said it was a good idea if someone you are in contact with is immunocompromised.

How about focusing on an iron-clad process whereby people like your mother are protected/quarantined vs. setting up a false scenario where everyone else has to take a relatively untested vaccine with a much, much higher ratio of side effects and deaths than normally tested vaccines?

My mother does quarantine at home. I got the vaccine so I could take care of her with a lower risk of infecting her. Nowhere in my post did I advocate a vaccine mandate, just said it was a good idea if you are in contact with an immunocompromised person.
