Saying Tennesseans need to get off the public dole and back to work, House Republican leaders are supporting legislation to cut the time frame for the state’s unemployment benefits in more than half.
House Speaker Cameron Sexton endorsed a bill Thursday that would reduce unemployment payments to 12 weeks from 26 weeks when the jobless rate is at 5.5% or less. The measure, sponsored by Rep. Kevin Vaughan, R-Collierville, would increase payments $5 to a maximum of $280 per week and add a week of eligibility for each half percent the unemployment rate rises to a maximum of 20 weeks.

Yeah, the economy is firing on all 3 cylinders like a well oiled machine
No, but it’s true that there’s a lot of jobs out there,..everybody is hiring, but many people are comfy on their unemployment and supplements and don’t want to go back.
I’ve talked to or know many employers, both in the service industry and in the trades, who are desperate for employees and have raised their starting wages as far as they can go. But nothing beats collecting a check for staying at home.

Yeah missed the /s tag?
Still 700,000 plus new claims a week.
Whole sectors of the remain economy shut down
Plenty of minimum wage starter jobs though.
Oh, I’m sucking on this government teat long and hard. Government and industry chose and prefers Indian and other foreign scumbags to true-blue American citizens.
Never was in my neck of the woods.
That said, too many like those freebie checks.

Minimum wage unskilled starter jobs in most cases for the jobs offered in the service industry. Jobs shunned by those shut out when the decent paying skilled white-collar service industry jobs disappeared due to the lockdowns. These same skilled white-collar workers absolutely refuse to go into the trades. Muscle work is not for them.

True, I sure-in-the-hell do. I’m getting $23.75 on unemployment. That’s less that half of what I earned last year. However, it’s far more than I can get doing menial labor unskilled blue or white collar work. (All I qualify for outside my career field, 30 years of solid experience be damned), and I’m locked out of my industry due to the Cheap Indian Labor Express
If I was 15 or 20 years younger, I might have been able to pick up a trade. Now it’s just a countdown to retirement.
