The greatest generation is fading away fast, as the few who remain are reaching their last years.

99 years is a good long run. Just think of all the change he experienced in every aspect of life.
When he was born...

A telephone in the home was a luxury. Now every family member carries one in their pocket.

A new Cadillac Victoria cost $4540.
A 2021 Cadillac Escalade starts at $75,000.

The average income in 1922 was $3,000.
The average income now ranges from €6,000 in Bulgaria to €42,000 in Luxembourg.

Life expectancy in 1922 was 65 years.
Life expectancy now is 79 years.

Air flight was in it’s infancy and a novelty.
Now air travel is commonplace.

Man went from looking at the moon to walking on it and aiming for Mars.

In 1922 kings and queens ruled most of the world.
Now there are few and they are largely ceremonial.

People could easily look in their pants and affirm their gender.
Now it takes psychiatrists and judges.

Rest now you old sailor, Prince Consort, Husband, Father, Grandfather.
Your labors are finished.

"The only member of the Royal Family outside of the Queen I liked, RIP."

Ditto. May he Rest In Peace, and may the Lord Bless and Comfort his wife, Queen Elizabeth II. Long live the Queen!!

I hardly knew who he was and I’m sure he liked it that way.

May he rest in peace!

Thanks.
Could have droned on and on but thought the brevity of a few high points would be better.

Favorite memory of him .... read this maybe 35-40 years ago when I still subscribed to TIME:

He and the Queen were on a visit to Australia, moving slowly down a street in an open topped vehicle, waving at the crowds that included large numbers of young students who had come out with their teachers.

A reporter was standing behind one such group of students who suddenly started to giggle and laugh, so of course he was curious to find out why.

It turned out this class was from a school for the Deaf, and they were all accomplished lip readers.

And they had witnessed Her Majesty, Her Royal Highness, the head of the globally-spanning Commonwealty, *THE* Queen, being called by her husband Prince Phillip ......

"My little pumpkin". :-)
