WASHINGTON (AP) — The number of Americans applying for unemployment benefits rose last week to 744,000, signaling that many employers are still cutting jobs even as more people are vaccinated against COVID-19, consumers gain confidence and the government distributes aid throughout the economy.
The Labor Department said Thursday that applications increased by 16,000 from 728,000 a week earlier. Jobless claims have declined sharply since the virus slammed into the economy in March of last year. But they remain stubbornly high by historical standards: Before the pandemic erupted, weekly applications typically remained below 220,000 a week.
For the week ending March 27, more than 3.7 million people were receiving traditional state unemployment benefits, the government said. If you include supplemental federal programs that were established last year to help the unemployed endure the health crisis, a total of 18.2 million are receiving some form of jobless aid the week of March 20.

Around here, Florida Panhandle, there are “HELP WANTED” signs all over the place. All the Fast Food and Sit-Down Restaurants are understaffed.
Many are advertising $12-$15 dollars an hour to start!
One place even giving a $100 signing bonus before you start!
Many other places hiring, like retail stores and small manufacturing, but no takers.
If I didn’t know any better, I’d say people are lazy.....................

I had some douchebag Freeper tell me a few months ago that the issue of businesses going under was overblown, and that it wasn’t happening at the rate many of us see with our own eyes.
The virus is not the cause for the energy industry to be hit so hard with layoffs. This selfdestructive administration will cause the coming high unemployment rate. The american dream will remain just a dream with Biden in charge of the country.

I have it on good authority that the spoiled, entitled under 25 set get a part time job, then have terrible work ethic which results in their hours being cut back. So then they seek another part time job, lather, rinse repeat.
They then complain about having multiple part time jobs with no benefits.
“Virus forces.”
Uh... It wasn’t a virus that ordered businesses shuttered.
Or maybe people are unwilling to take the health risk of having to wear a mask over their face ALL DAY.
