The total National Instant background Check System (NICS) checks In March of 2021 were an all-time record for the month. The total checks done were reported at 4,691,738. The next highest month was January of 2021, with 4,317,804. The third highest month was 3,937,066 in December of 2020. Those numbers are very large. They reflect the continuing expansion of the use of the NICS system for purposes other than firearm sales. Most of the increase is in carry permits and carry permit rechecks.

There were about 2.6 million permits and permit rechecks, about .66 million permit checks, and 1.94 permit rechecks. Over 1.35 million of the permit rechecks were from Illinois, which appears to be rechecking permits nearly every day.

Very close to two million guns were sold as estimated by the records in the NICS system, in March 2021.  Most of those were pistols, over 1.1 million, with about .67 million rifles, the remainder being classified as other and multiple sales. It is the second-highest March on record for firearm sales.

A year ago, in March of 2020, an estimated 2.37 million firearms were sold in the NICS system.

The ATF certifies 25 states to substitute various permits for NICS checks because the permit required a NICS check already. Roughly 7 million people have permits which can be substituted for a NICS check. Firearm sales conducted with one of those permits are not included in the NICS firearm sales numbers.

The number of privately held firearms in the United States, with an increase of 2 million more last month, is about 470 million.

The “permits” need to go away. My “permit” is the fundamental human right described in the Second Amendment. Permitting is a form of human rights suppression. That includes permits to buy and permits to wear and carry.

All firearms purchases must be unrestricted and tax-free. If you’re not in prison or a mental hospital, it’s a private transaction between free people and none of the government’s business.

High prices(demand) and diminished supply meet the stimulus checks. I guess we’ll see what Biden’s magic EO brings.

Gun sales down???

Well, most folks have decided they have what they need and ammo is scarce, so why bother with buying something you can’t feed.

But now that CornPop and his puppet masters have initiated their gun control schemes, all of which will go over like a turd in the punch bowl, there might be another surge.

And it appears that the Missouri state Senate just passed a Bill that would prohibit enforcement of federal gun laws in the state.

Illegals and terrorists pouring over the border and the Left just keeps on pushing. It’ll end well. Sure it will.

In my state, PA, anyone can open carry, without a permit of any kind.

However, if you want to carry concealed, you need a permit.

You also need a permit to carry a loaded weapon in your vehicle.

The law requiring a permit for concealed carry is not lawful, but getting it changed will not happen.

I don’t know what happened in other places, but about 2 weeks ago I went into the local Academy, looking for something other than firearms.

I was amazed. They usually have had a good stock of guns on hand, 3 glass cabinets with at least a dozen pistols each normally. This time they had 8 or 9 in one of them, and 2 Heritage .22 in another the other totally empty. 3 pump shotguns, normally at least 10, and 2 or 3 semi auto shotguns and a couple of double barrel, normally around 30 total. Two .22 rifles, usually an assortment of .17, .22 and .22 mag totalling 20 or so. I didn’t pay attention to larger caliber hunting rifles and AR 15 types.

I’ve never seen their stock so depleted, even when stompy feet was in office, selling more guns than any other president. I think biden just took his place. When the kung flu scare first hit, ammo disappeared, but guns were still on the shelf. They did have smaller inventory, but nothing like this.

I went to the other primary gun seller a couple of days ago, their stock is low, but fairly normal for kung flu era, other smaller businesses can’t get anything at all. Other pawn shops have zero used guns. Last time I looked, 2 or 3 weeks ago, 3 used guns in the area pawn shops total. (4 pawn shops, one I refuse to go into. They tried to force me to sign a reciept for a $5 guitar strap. I said not no but hell no and walked out, never to return)

I haven’t checked out other local towns, have to get some brake work done on the car before I make any more road trips. I usually keep an eye on what is available, one of the pawn shops about 40 miles away often has some pretty good stuff, but with car acting up I can’t go now but that will be fixed before long. Can’t make the 2 hour trip to go salt water fishing either and that really sucks out loud...

Right now, inventory is lower than I’ve ever seen. Ammo is almost nonexistent, I finally saw a box of 9mm a few days ago, $50 for 50 rounds at a pawn shop here. First 9mm I’ve seen in over 6 months. Don’t know how much they originally had, just one box left. Nothing for most other pistol calibers at all, even .22, only a few oddball rifle calibers. A few boxes of 12 ga slugs, some .410 buckshot, and some # 8 AND #9 bird shot for 12 and 20, and I think a few 28 gauge.

Academy had no ammo at all, zero. Guy there said they open at 9, if you’re not in line 30 minutes before that, you’re out of luck. They get ammo 3 days a week. Wiped out in an hour.

That's the real reason behind declining gun sales: no guns left on the shelves. People have bought up whatever was available.

Buddy manages a gun store.

March was their best month on record, even though inventory was very low.

They are concerned that after the executive order, it will all end.

Bingo. Price way up on what few guns are available. Low supply, high price = fewer sales. No ammo either.
