SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WICS/WRSP) — Gov. JB Pritzker’s office hopes Illinois is ready to fully reopen early this summer.
The Governor’s Chief of Staff, Ann Caprara, told senators during a budget proposal hearing on Tuesday, April 6, that she hopes Illinois can move into Phase 5 in the beginning of this summer.
Phase 5 would be a complete relaxation of all COVID-19 restrictions, such as indoor capacity limits and gathering sizes. Masks are expected to remain.

The Circus Elephant will re-open the State in November 2022.
Uh, if you still mandate masks you did not completely relax all Bat Flu restrictions.
I can almost guarantee he is saying this, hoping to get businesses to plan to hold the normal summer events like carnivals, concerts, etc. However, IMHO, any sane event promoter or business is gonna take a hard pass and cancel again.
In CT we have already seen large events into July cancel an others silent on if they are going to happen in 2021.
“Its funny how fat boy Pritzker, the witch from Michigan, and Newsome all said in the last days they went to open in the summer and masks remain. None of the people are lead on their own.”
Meanwhile not a f@rt from Tommie “the Commie” Wolf.
I am more convinced than ever that he wants his legacy to be the “lone wolf”...the “safe” Governor whose state was the LAST to reopen and unmask.
By then it might be some other public health crisis,
such as climate change or white supremacy.
Will anybody be left in the state (or at least in Chicagoland) to care?
From what I understand, Chicago is already planning to have their downtown events in the summer...but I’m not clear if any of the big conventions at McCormick Place are planning yet. Of course, street safety is a whole other matter.
At what point do the conventions decide “screw it, we’re moving to Florida”....
I recall reading a few years ago of some major conventions pulling out of SF or LA over the homeless, crime and street poop issues, to name a few. I believe they moved to AZ or Texas.
My local Walmart (Effingham) is not requiring people to wear masks anymore. The still hand out free ones, though.
