Op-ed: Stop saying Covid vaccine passport and learn from messaging missteps of the past (use “this” word, instead)
CNBC ^ | April 7, 2021 | Brian Castrucci and Frank Luntz

Why are politicians so good at crafting language to get themselves elected, and so bad at communicating simple policies to keep their constituents safe and alive?

When President Joe Biden took office, he promised 100 million shots in arms within his first 100 days. Last week, the Biden administration reached its goal — 42 days early, no less — and raised the bar to 200 million. He deserves significant credit for turbo-charging the vaccine effort, as does the Trump administration for making safe, effective vaccines available so quickly. For once, a bipartisan success.

But politicization of the virus and ineffective communication in support of the vaccines once again threatens the nation’s health. This time, it’s over the poorly named, so-called vaccine passports.

When it comes to vaccinations, the coronavirus doesn’t see or respect party lines. We are all on the same side, and we all need 85% to be vaccinated and to move on with our lives. If we fail in this task, no one wins, the virus proliferates, our freedoms are curtailed, and more people become sick and die.

Let’s not mince words anymore. This nationwide public health crisis was politicized, and partisan divides contributed to the loss of American lives. That is a fact. And mistakes in messaging continue to plague the vaccine rollout within certain communities.

The national conversation about vaccine passports has shown that we have learned little from messaging missteps of the past year. When the pandemic began, one side fumed over the threats of prolonged economic closures while the other side bristled when challenged to defend human “lockdowns.” Democrats weaponized science, Republicans weaponized freedom, and partisanship became a contributing cause of death to more than half a million Americans.

Enough already.

Apparently, everyone is happy about the COVID-19 vaccines as long as the term “vaccine passport” is not used and “vaccine verification” is used, instead.

Same crud, different name. “Marketing,” and not what is behind it, is what matters.

It’s not “rape” when it’s called “random, intimate love from strangers.”

It's not their job to "keep their constituents safe and alive."

They aren't God, even if they think they are.

“... and partisanship became a contributing cause of death to more than half a million Americans.”

That’s okay, because as long as COVID-19 shows up as a fellow contributing cause, COVID-19 still gets the full death credit.

It is already against Federal Law to demand Private Medical Records, see HIPAA. As it turns out, the only remedy under HIPAA is to file a Formal Complaint with the Feds, which means they won’t do a damned thing.

But what if a State Mirrored that Portion of Federal Law in HIPAA and made it a Civil Tort in State Court?? Seems to me a simple law would Stop the talk about COVID passport or whatever you call it, immediately when it costs the Organization Big Bucks for Every Incident. And make it payable in Small Claims Court.

Any person that has been required to provide medical records or any person that has received a demand to produce medical records to any Private company,Corporation,Individual,Group,Organization,..., Shall be entitled to compensatory damages equal to, but not less than the maximum monetary award in civil small claims court.

Even the police are not there to protect you, only to respond if someone is injured in some way. If you are in danger that is not imminent, they have no responsibility to keep you safe.

And what is the point of the vaccine passport or “verification”? After a certain amount of time, everyone will have had the chance to get the vaccine, so there is no need to determine people’s status. Either they have it or they do not want to have it and have made their own decision to take the risk of not getting the vaccine, so no one has an obligation t ok protect them.

Those few who are unable to get it for health reasons should fall under the standards of the ADA: reasonable accommodations can be made. The carrying of papers to verify one’s status is not reasonable at all.

“Why are Democrats so good at crafting language to get themselves elected, and so bad at communicating simple policies?”

Because if the Democrats revealed to the voters what they intended to do they would never win.

Liberal-Speak, the same group that told us that “gay” was a perfectly legitimate euphemism for “Sodomite.” George Orwell nailed it when he explained “double speak.”

Passport, verification, whatever you call it, it is still going to be basically the same thing as the STASI goon demanding "Papers!" at the checkpoint. You have either cowed-to and complied-with un-Constitutional government edicts, or you have not. Woke entities, fearing backlash from those in power, will enforce their policies, nicely side-stepping BOR level restrictions on government entities doing these kinds of things..

"Your lack of enthusiasm for the Party's policies has been noted comrade..." Coming to your local business soon. Heck, already hear with "mandatory" mask mandates.

Baaa, baaa. Apparently we're all sheep now.
