They must have had some volunteers....................
The issue with Influenza is antigenic shift. Basically, Influenza virus is highly unstable and has multiple strains. The annual flu shot has historically been too slow to keep up with that change, which is why that shot only has 40-60% effectiveness.
When flu shots start showing up on the third generation (mRNA) platform, I expect they’ll have something closer to 95% effectiveness and will likely wipe out most flu deaths (about 36,000 per year). That’s because they can be modified in weeks instead of months, so they can be changed right along with mutations in Influenza. We’ll finally be able to keep up with it and get ahead of it.
One would hope that's the next logical use and application as the pandemic fades.
The first doses were given March 16th 2020 in the Phase 1 clinical trials. Between Pfizer and Moderna, in the US and the UK, they had over 100,000 participants in the clinical trials. So yes, they have quite a large pool of vaccinated trial participants to perform studies with.
The people who started getting shots in December only got that after nearly a year of trials where many, many others had them and were then closely monitored. Then all that data was compiled and handed to the FDA. After FDA looked over everything and eventually approved the authorization for use, only THEN did availability open up to healthcare workers.
The gift that will keep on giving.
That’s not any different than getting the virus and maybe not as good.

I’d side with “not as good”. A good friend had the ChynaCoof in December 2019, got antibodies, still has antibodies.
A whole six months?
Then you’ll need a booster, probably. ................

And now there are MILLIONS of volunteers!!!
Oh. Well that makes it a certainty.
Good.
Well, I usually do find observable reality to be a pretty good indicator of what’s real, yes.
How pathetic.
So will everyone rush out and get the booster? Or we have a fifth and sixth wave?
Do we apply before or after we are dead?
I use Pfizer marketing as my reality.
There is no indication to date that any booster will be necessary to maintain immunity. The vaccines we have right now work fine for all known variants.
There’s no point in worrying about theoretical possibilities. Might as well worry about whether a giant meteor might strike the Earth in 5 years. Could it? Sure. Does worrying about it today do anything? No.
