On Monday, 22 March, in Chicago, 15 people were recorded as being shot. Three of them were killed. One of those shot is recorded as acting in self-defense, on the South Side of Chicago. From the Chicago Sun Times:
An hour prior, a man was shot in South Deering on the South Side. They were sitting in a parked vehicle about 10 p.m. in the 2500 block of East 109th Street when two people walked up to them and fired shots, police said. A 25-year-old man was struck in the face and grazed in the neck area. He pulled out his own gun and returned fire but did not strike anyone.
He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in fair condition. Police said a handgun was recovered at the scene, and the man does not have a valid FOID card or concealed carry license. He was taken into custody and charges are pending.
The case is of interest because it appears to be self-defense; the police do not mention the injured man as having any prior convictions, and the 25-year-old who was shot did not have a Firearms Owner Identification Card (FOID) or a Concealed Carry License (CCW).
Map of homicide and self-defense in Chicago 2018
The backup to obtain a FOID in Illinois was about four months in 2020. It is supposed to be done in 30 days. The backup was another four months, on average, for a CCW permit. A FOID is required before a CCW can be applied for. Several lawsuits have been filed. In March of 2021, the same numbers were cited. The times to obtain a FOID or CCW in Chicago have been reported as significantly longer.

It would be a good place to send the denizens of Hell you really didn't like...
“Foxx refuses to prosecute gang members”
These prosecutors are the greatest threat to the US today.
Wait, why does anybody need an ID card?? Mayor Lori The Lesbo says thats racist!!!!
Umm, only if the body is found. :)
And, even the poshest (sp? richie) areas have within them an area that would easily accommodate another body. Just wander anywhere near one of the hundreds of “protected” homeless ghettos. This state is full of them.
As to eventual copper fallout, remember: all of my (other) guns were lost in a tragic boating (car theft) accident. In Ca you do have to fill a lost gun report, so you will get punished for “forgetting” that. But, your family is safe.
Me too, well done...
Bkmk
Well, to be fair, NO ONE in Illinois is unaware of the FOID. It doesn’t speak to the firearms you own, but it does identify you as a firearms owner.
Anyone who fails to get an FOID in Illinois has a reason. Maybe they are a prohibited felon, for example.
Depends on how remote you are. Ca is full of do gooder tattle tellers who will call in “shots fired” for just vehicle backfires. 999 out of a 1000 times do not figure on the possibility of having any advantage at all if you discharge even once.
And this is the case even in the remotest of areas if you do not have a pact in place with all neighbors who are within hearing range. All it takes is just one to call. And you are not going to have time to hide anything at all. And yes... at that point they will search your house without a warrant. Ask me how I know...
That is a fact. It is all about population control. Legalize criminality and make any resistance to that criminality illegal.
ummmmm, how do you know?
There are other possibilities.
For example, you have moved a lot; the long lead times means the FOID may never reach you.
In some locations, it is taking well over a year to process the FOID.
Another is just frustration with doing the paperwork.
So, it serves as a filter, of sorts.
You can’t own a gun in Illinois unless you have a FOID card.
“The Left would disarm criminals if it could.” - The left thrives on armed criminals. They have no interest in disarming them because they are a useful tool for terrorizing the populace and forcing it to submit if they wish to have protection.
“Not out of any love/conconcern for their victims but out of its desire to remove any effective means by the oppressed of resisting the criminal acts carried out by the state.” - Guns in the hands of criminals does not help the oppressed resist the state unless you mean the criminals are the oppressed.
Chicago. Blue America.
Was locked up twice for discharging because a neighbor called in on me. And yes they went through my house without a warrant against my wife protests after they arrested me at gun point in my shop and put me in the car. I was lucky they did not take my firearms, only because this was 35 years ago. I had dispatched a rattlesnake at my place of business with .38 snake shot.
The second time it was a van backfiring at my auto service business as I was setting the distributor wire order. But I was already guilty before they got there because of my previous incident, same neighbor called without cause or investigation. But again they put me on the ground guns drawn and arrested me without proof or a firearm present. They searched the shop and found no firearms but they hauled me away anyhow leaving my business wide open and unattended.
Today they would have taken any firearms found. I have recently had this happen to a couple friends and a couple years later they are still fighting to get back their firearms at great cost. It has now gone beyond what the firearms were worth. So they are not getting them back. The cost will be too great.
Once they take them you are not getting them back... And because this country allows Ca to get away with these things all the other states are adopting the same practices. I wish folks would realize that Ca unconstitutional gun issues are truly their own issues also, even in all the other states. It all starts and is tested for citizen capitulation and acceptance in Ca first.
Annoying. Are you glad to have seen CA in the rear view mirror?
Absolutely... Had to leave with nothing but the shirts on our backs but it was the best thing that ever happened to our clan. :)
