BEIJING is using an "insidious" policy of coercion and pressure to assert its control over the South China Sea, a leading Asia analyst has said.
China has long claimed sovereignty over the disputed waters, saying that the entire waterway up to the coasts of the Philippines, Malaysia and Taiwan belongs to it. Beijing's claim is based on the U-shaped nine-dash line etched onto a map in the 1940s by a Chinese geographer. In 2016, an international court of arbitration dismissed China's territorial claims.
Despite the ruling, the People's Republic has in recent years built artificial islands in the waters claimed by Vietnam, the Philippines and Malaysia and dispatched military units to them.
Now Beijing is deploying another tactic to beef up its presence in the region and assert its control.
The Chinese government has over the the last few weeks sent hundreds of "fishing ships" to reinforce its outlets and put pressure on its neighbors.

.....”Duarte might be able to do it”.....
Who said it would be a blood bath if it happens.
China’s not happy that Trump built up the Australia, India, Japan triangle in the Region, and Vietnam is upset with China over their fishing rights all the time. So China’s trying to intimidate and threaten nation leaders who get in their way or uncooperative.
I’ll wager that the Butchers of Beijing are shaking in their boots at the prospect of war in the South China Sea. </s>
Yes, and those dreadnaught battleships are the key to WW2 victory.

China has amassed a military force second to none. It costs them a lot of money to feed that war machine so they need to get their money’s worth. They certainly didn’t build up their army, navy and air force to hold parades. Death and destruction is on the horizon.

The Chinese fishing fleet numbers in the 10s of thousands, and moving together in huge fleets, rape the ocean clean of life wherever they fish. The Galapagos was one recent place raped.
We need to arm our allies there to the teeth. Even give them missile shields.

A) The Regime is more likely to withdraw forces ;
B) After we have a missile shield that works and sufficient missiles to stop the incoming hundreds of ICBMs and SLBM - something the Regime is loath to do, having spent us into oblivion on social and green crap.
It would put the trump card back in the pocket of US forces in the Pacific.

That word is anathema to the Regime. You know which one.
The fear mongers in the leftist, democrat party press just constantly write about things to play on people’s emotions. The leftist media really are criminal.

I didn’t mention warship classes.
My comment was on the value and utility of Subic and Clark.
Is there clear comment on that subject you’d like to make?
Or, is amorphous snark now your style?
