Indeed, but you could argue that bridge was crossed back in the 1930's. We have had a government command economy thru the military-industrial-complex and redistribution of wealth via transfer payments. Outright individual freedom has been an illusion. The difference now is that pretense is being dropped.

Government won’t own the means of production, they will just dictate how they operate.
Hitler did the same...it was called “right wing”, because it was right of communism, because they still allowed private ownership.
But it was still far left of center on the political scale.
