Delta and Coca-Cola face backlash from Republicans after opposing Georgia voting law
New York Times ^ | April 1 | By David Gelles

For two weeks, Delta Air Lines and Coca-Cola had been under pressure from activists and Black executives who wanted the companies to publicly oppose a new law in Georgia that makes it harder for people to vote. On Wednesday, six days after the law was passed, both companies stated their “crystal clear” opposition to it.

Now Republicans are mad at the companies for speaking out. Hours after the companies made their statements, Gov. Brian Kemp, a Republican, took aim at Ed Bastian, the chief executive of Delta, accusing him of spreading “the same false attacks being repeated by partisan activists.” And Republicans in the Georgia state legislature floated the idea of increasing taxes on Delta as retribution.

This says it all. I was thinking that Amy s some of these white liberals were joking, but they’re not. Sadly, most, if not all, of the folks interviewed in Harlem.vote for the same people.

These are multinational companies, not American companies.

America is just another market to manage to their way of thinking.

Once you understand that everything makes sense.

Oh and Coke has been pushing their poison throughout the world for over 100 years. At least Delta provides a useful service, but their a lots of other carriers.

Coke goes down as smooth as battery acid.

It'll ruin a shot of Ten High.

Dear CEO of Large Corporation:

Unless you are completely naive you must realize that the folks that are opposed to these voting regulations want people to vote who are most likely to vote for higher taxes and more regulations on your business.

The new voters are also likely to vote for higher minimum wages, more spending that results in higher interest rates, and more intrusive training and diversity requirements for your business.

Why, as a supposedly intelligent and knowledgeable CEO, would you want to oppose voting regulations that increase the chance that you will be able to continue to run your business the way you best see fit?

Do you really want a situation where you have to ask permission from the governor or Washington D.C. before making any important business decisions?

Do you really want the government looking over your shoulder every time you hire or fire an employee?

Do you have some sort of death wish for your company? Is your golden parachute so well manufactured that you and your career can survive in the environment that would be created by lax voting regulations?

In 1986, Coca-Cola production finally began in the Soviet Union. Lada cars were swapped for the concentrate. It wasn’t a profitable agreement.

Now Republicans are mad at the companies for speaking out.

Exhibit #202499433 of the media's propaganda. See how this statement not only trivializes the objection to the companies' stance, but infantilizes the Republicans? The companies were nobly "speaking out" while the Republicans were just "mad" about it, like children stomping their feet.

If it were blm or antifa or some other assortment of Democrats, the statement would be "Democrats are outraged at the companies' controversial statements, which many feel are hurtful to our more vulnerable communities."

Except, given that this is modern "journalism", there would be a lot more misspelled words, bad punctuation, and atrocious grammar.

I don’t have a dog in that fight-I don’t have any interest in flying anyplace and I’m an organic-only person-I don’t consume anything processed, including soda-diet or otherwise-but I don’t think it it is wise for any private business to involve themselves in issues involving voter rights or any other political issues-I hope their bottom line tanks over it...

They should not only revoke the current tax breaks but demand any taxes not paid be paid, and specify that it must come from the CEO's compensation package to protect the worker's and investor's interests against the idiots in management.

Bet they shutup real fast then.

I think it is unfit for human consumption-but most people don’t get that the “diet” soda with artificial sweeteners is just as unhealthy as the sugary real stuff-diet processed crap is still processed crap...

coke and Delta are trying to use their economic power to effect political issues. so therefore the Republican’s who control the legislature in Georgia, are doing the same thing of eliminating HUGE tax subsidies to the really, really smart people who made these decision at Delta and Coke.

If they want to bitch about the law in that state, then take away their tax-favored status and any tax breaks they may have-let them go elsewhere...

Coca Cola and Delta should have taken a lesson from Michael Jordan concerning speaking out on political and cultural issues.

“Republicans buy sneakers too.”

Delta and Coca Cola have major financial ties to China. But, Google “China” and “Coca Cola” together, and you get a blank page. Odd?

You’re GD right we are. I’ve already told Woca Cola I’m done with them.

NowI’ll call out Delta airlines on their hypocrisy (need a photo ID to board an aircraft) and tell them I’ll never do business with them again also.

Companies need to be shown that not all their customers are woke Leftists. I advise you all to write to both and tell them why you are boycotting them - and make sure to carry through on that.
