A video on social media appears to show an attack on an Asian couple in Tacoma and police are calling it a hate crime.
Investigators are using the footage of that assault to track down the people responsible.
One major obstacle is that investigators are still trying to identify who the Asian couple is because so far no one has come forward to say they were attacked.
The video shows an older couple walking through a neighborhood when two teenage boys or young adults rushed up to them. A third teenager recorded the attack, in which an older man is repeatedly punched while the woman cries out for help in Korean.
“That's just unacceptable,” said Lee Foldesi, who lives in Tacoma and was shown the footage. “People shouldn't be doing this to one another, especially with the situations that are going on in society right now."
Anti-Asian bias has been mounting across the country. Recent cases include a 65-year-old woman in New York City who was violently kicked to the ground.
Now it is happening in Tacoma too.
“We are investigating this as a hate crime," said Tacoma Police Officer Wendy Haddow. "We do not have a lot of detail regarding the incident other than the videos. If you are a victim of this type of crime, please call the Tacoma Police Department so we can investigate it."
Michael Itti, wo does outreach in the Asian-American community through CISC, said there are many reasons why hate crimes go unreported.
“I think that language barriers create a problem for a lot of the elderly,” Itti said. “We hope to expand and provide language assistance for multiple communities that experience hate and bias."
Tacoma police are looking for help from the public. People with information about the case can call 1-800-222-TIPS.
Investigators said they have not seen a rise in hate crimes in Tacoma, although they can't account for crimes that go unreported.
There was just a single incident reported in all of January and February. Last year, the department investigated 24 hate crime incidents. In 2019, there were 25 reports made.
Video at source. You know.
When they start prosecuting hate crimes against whites, then I’ll be happy.
Prolly Trump MAGA supporters, given their bright red clothing in the inner city. Because Orange Man Bad.
“Unacceptable” - why do people that are unwilling to SOLVE the problems in this country keep using this word?
Sounds like the knockout game.
Recall when Obama was president and we were told that the knockout game incidents weren’t even always the knockout game because some of the attackers didn’t play by the rules.
The courts won’t admit it but those laws do not protect white people
In Newspeak, “unacceptable” means “acceptable”.
Get your head right quick, comrade.
Two points:1) These nationwide attacks on Asians mostly by blacks are not only being recorded but are being used as a badge of street credibility among the thugocracy 2) How long will Asians remain loyal Democrats?
Harvard admissions?
>> “We are investigating this as a hate crime,” said Tacoma Police Officer Wendy Haddow.
Because Hate Crime makes premediated assault more violent?
Hate Crime law is idiotic.
Of course it is, but so are the light jail sentences people get for some serious crimes. Our entire judicial system is a mess, just like our election system, just like our Southern Border. You get the point
If it had been a video of specially-privileged street savages attacking a White, there would be no “Hate crime” investigation. There have been many real attacks by street savages on Whites, and no “Hate crime” investigations.
“Video at source. You know. “
Of course we did.
“Teenagers,” huh? Also known as “youths.”
Must be a gaggle of Wypipo
It’s the verbal equivalent of a strongly worded letter and has the same non-effect.
“Hurd mentality”...
If Obama had teenage sons, they'd look like attackers of Asians.
asian is the flavor of the month but plain old whites are being attacked constantly by subgroups....nothing....no outrage...
But if they are stupid enough to do so, we will provide their names and addresses to the Tacoma chapter of Antifa, so they can finish the job.
