Beating Statehood for D.C.
American Thinker.com ^ | March 30, 2021 | Richard B. Speed

Radical Democrats, not content to control all three electoral elements of the federal government, are urging that two new states, Puerto Rico and Washington D.C., be added to the union. Legislation to make Washington D.C, a state has already been drawn up. Given that Democrats control both D.C., and Puerto Rico overwhelmingly, this would insure at least four more permanently Democrat controlled seats in the U.S. Senate, thus potentially ensuring Democrat control of that body for generations. Democrats correctly view the nineteen months between now and the 2022 Congressional elections as their window of opportunity to consolidate their electoral stranglehold on American politics.

While it is crucial to defeat their proposals to do away with the filibuster and to defeat their companion effort to make permanent and nationalize the measures they took in swing states to stack the deck against Republicans, it is also time for Republicans to prepare for the battle ahead and respond to the arguments Democrats make in favor of the proposal to make D.C. a state with concrete proposals of our own. We must get ahead of this onrushing train.

To this end we must acknowledge that with respect to Washington D.C., the district is not what it was when Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson agreed that the site on the Potomac should be set aside as the seat of the national government, or when Pierre L’Enfant laid out the original plan of the city. Jefferson regarded the region as little more than a swamp where nobody would ever want to live. To him, that was one of its greatest features. Geography itself would insure that the federal government would remain small and ineffective. Accordingly there was no reason to provide for congressional representation of those who lived there.

To end this discussion...state by state, should pass a 3-line legislation piece...mandating that non-federal property in DC...revert by the 4th of July 2022...back to Maryland. No ifs, ands, or buts...end the District except for federal property. Maryland can handle the issue from that point on.

The DC is Maryland

The DC if changed must revert to Maryland

America can not accept a purely African State

It has always been about statehood only, and a guarantee of two left wing senators, this is a very good ideal except Maryland might not want this particular group of outlaws in their state but I say they would fit very well in Maryland

His suggestion of giving it back to Maryland is not going to beat the idea of D.C. statehood. The Democrats will still push for it, as would Republicans if a GOP majority lived there.

DC is still Maryland on loan to the federal government.

The action will allow say California to split into three states. The state of LA, San Francisco and the red counties

Here is my proposal: Amend the Constitution. Add Alexandria and Baltimore to the District, together with other Dem suburbs. Then make that a State. The advantage is that without those heavily Dem precincts, MD and VA turn Red and we pick up 4 Senators while they pick up only 2.

No it isn't.

Nothing prevents California, or any other state, from splitting into multiple states. All they need the approval of the state legislature and from both houses of Congress.

Currently Washington, DC, is about 48% black. It votes 95% for Democrats because of all the white liberals there too.
