The nationwide eviction moratorium is being extended through June 30, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced Monday.
The protection was scheduled to expire in two days on March 31.
The CDC says the COVID-19 pandemic has presented a historic threat to the nation’s public health. Keeping people in their homes and out of crowded or congregate settings — like homeless shelters — by preventing evictions is a key step in helping to stop the spread of COVID-19.
Around 20% of adult renters said they didn’t pay last month’s rent, according to a survey published in March by the Census Bureau.

Is such an EO constitutional as it deprives the property owner due process under the 5th amendment and a 6th district court ruling?
Is extension of the EO even necessary given the extended and even enhanced unmployment benefits in existence on top of an improving economy? Few should be in dire straights to pay rent. Of course progressives promote free stuff in the name of social justice so as to stick it to the man.
What gives these goons the right to issue decrees about this?
Are the property owners being compensated by the govt., i.e. the taxpayers? I’d rather give my taxes to them then the slugs who aren’t working.
My question exactly.
What’s the name for Government Control of Private Property?
Hint: It’s the name the Left uses (ironically) for Republicans.
And what gives CDC this authority? evictions are not a disease.
There is no way such an order is constitutional.
So landlords go bankrupt. They are deplorables, see.
A lot of these covid restrictions and edicts are unconstitutional.
I wonder how many renters used their Covid checks to negotiate with their landlords?
How does the CDC have authority to forbid eviction? And if they forbid eviction. Do they also forbid the property from being foreclosed for non-payment by the landlord on his lease.
Just don’t pay the note on the building. Bank can’t foreclose.
Of course it is not constitutional. And to whatever degree it may be constitutional in some limited “extreme case”, the CDC isn’t vested with that authority. And it is only fair that if the government (federal state or local) issues such an order that property owners be compensated.
I sometimes wonder if what we’re witnessing isn’t in some ways just a giant transfer of wealth. Hotels are being sold for 40 cents on the dollar. Main street shops are losing tenants. Malls are closed. Landlords have tenants who are/were getting up to $1000 a week in taxpayer subsidies refusing to pay the rent. Tenants are supposed to make it up on the back end but good luck - if they can’t or won’t pay now they sure won’t be paying double later.
Have a friend who dared the bank to foreclose on him. Essentially, if they do, he'll walk, and the bank will be in charge of tenants, repairs, etc. The bank wants no part of that.
Report on the radio this morning said that two US District Courts have held that the order is unconstitutional but have not issued injunctions preventing enforcement. I do not have the source cite for that comment.
Transfer of Wealth? Good Point. After all property is Theft.
The Left believes in the Four Freedoms.
Roosevelt : Freedom of speech. Freedom of worship.
Freedom from want. Freedom from fear
They take great Liberty fulfilling Freedom from Want if you ask me.
Best answer ^^^^^.
Might be a workable strategy but do not forget insurance and of course taxes.
How did CDC acquire the authority for such thing? /S
