Mexican officials condemned the weekend killing of a would-be candidate for mayor in a small town in the southern state of Oaxaca.

its weird, with all the violence and corruption in Mexico, it is still one of the top retirement destinations for people looking to leave the country from the USA.
I can’t reconcile those things in my mind - how could any sane person invest money (i.e. buy a retirement house) in a third world, corrupt nation lie this?

Sorry you say “third world corrupt” that now applies to about half the US States as well. At least in Mexico you can hire security.

or because the Mexican Federal Gov only controls the strip of land from Mexico city to Texas border? The cartels control the rest.
