People don’t want childcare, they want to be able to afford raising their own children.

“People don’t want childcare, they want to be able to afford raising their own children.”
Define “people’.

I’m afraid that’s not true for many who can be called ‘parents’. They’d love free childcare (and the meals that come with them). That would free up time and resources for them to pursue their preferred, shall we say ‘activities’. After all why should they be expected to feed or care for the children they’ve brought into the world?
Many schools have ‘graduated’ from providing lunches and breakfasts to providing a light evening meal to their students. And of course many provide ‘backpacks’ so the kids don’t go hungry during weekends or school breaks.

Which needs a two parent household at the least.
Which is now viewed as a sign of “privilege” and evil.
Even with two parents, it is hard. With one it is near impossible.
