If he sets up his own company, it will take him at least a year simply to staff the company and get the beginnings of projects set up - and that's assuming he's able to attract enough talent in the first place.

For your information, MySpace existed before Facebook was even founded. Not only that, MySpace was very big and successful before Facebook later bloomed.
And there were plenty of other big social media outfits before Facebook and Twitter too.
