Thank you Biggirl.
The only reason I’m listening to “Rush’s show” today is because his wife is going to be on the first hour.
I haven’t really looked for a replacement radio show for my afternoon listening, but now that it is spring, I can go outside and work in the yard. Previously I would have taken my small radio and earphones to listen to Rush, but no there is nothing really to listening too.
And I’m not into the continued mourning of Rush.
Wow just reading this brought tears to my eyes, farewell Rush and thank sBiggirl for your years of service here to the Rush place.
I stopped listening aftet the first week. Just can’t seem to bring myself to listen anymore.
Damn. Rush’s greatest contribution is that he taught us how to think for ourselves. That is the most valuable thing he did and the most dangerous to the deep state.
I tuned in the day he died, while I was on the road to a doctor’s appointment. I thought I was listening to a “Best of” show.
Didn’t hear until a few hours later he was gone. Haven’t listened since.
Same here. It seems a bit morbid to me. I wish they had Mark Steyn on with his commentary on what’s happening.
Thank you for all of your Rush posts. They will be missed.
Today, my local radio station (1320 WJAS Pittsburgh PA) replaced the Rush Limbaugh Show with a “new” one: Rose Tennent, who sometimes subs for Sean Hannity. https://www.pbrtv.com/wjas-serves-up-a-new-schedule/
I’m with you... Just can’t do it:-(
Apparently, Steyn wanted no part of the tribute shows, or the suits a Premier (Rush’s syndicator) decided he wasn’t the right fit for the new format.
Ratings will tell if the extended tribute lasts. WSB in Atlanta has already pulled the plug, and replaced Rush with the talent-free Erick Erickson. But most of the major market IHeart, Cumulus and Entercom stations (WOR in NYC; WMAL in Washington, WLS in Chicago, KMOX in St Louis, WBAP in Dallas) are sticking with the tribute format.
If they can retain most of Rush’ audience, the mix of “guide hosts” and clips may last for a while, because the profit margin would go through the roof. I’m sure Rush’s estate is sharing in the proceeds from commercials, but without having to pay his base salary, Premier stands to make even more money off the show. If the program survives in its new format, that would be the ultimate tribute to Rush; most radio programs don’t outlive their hosts. When Paul Harvey died in 2010, his replacements (Gil Gross and Doug Limerick) lasted less than a month.
I am done memorializing Rush. I even cancelled my 24/7. The shows have been mostly Rush Reverence instead of Rush Revere. I heard all the tapes they are playing the first time. They knew he was dying and should have brought on a successor long before now. And, sadly, the replacements, except Steyn, are unremarkable.
I think Premiere/IHeart have no clue what to do with 12-3p ET. How do you continue what Rush had? You can’t. Make the break and find a formula and try it. Put a great man and woman conservative team in, have guests, nail the Cabal and take Rush’s ideals and make them understandable for the Gen X and beyond crowd. Make it hip... just me..

I listened to Rush his first day on WLS in Chicago. They've been owned by Cumulus for awhile now and I thought I'd read Cumulus inked Dan Bongino to take over Rush's spot?
We are about to find out if Dan Bongino and Todd Starnes can compete with the legacy of America's Anchorman. It's been reported that Premiere is planning to continue the show in it's current format for the foreseeable future.
Here's is the official statement from Rush's syndicator Premiere on this:
“No one can replace Rush Limbaugh, and Premiere Networks will continue to provide millions of loyal listeners with the voice of Rush for the long term. We have a variety of familiar voices who are guiding the audio of Rush for all of the important issues of the day, including recent guest hosts Todd Herman, Ken Matthews and Brett Winterble. With over 30 years of audio, Rush has a definite view on any and every topic.”
And, they did find an affiliate to air the show, WBOB in Jacksonville FL has gone ahead and picked up the show. WOKV which was a Rush station in that market dropped it for a local host.
Rush must really be smiling and laughing in his grave right now looking at all of this.
Again, thanks Biggirl for these weekly threads. It's been fun.
If this is Premier’s plan then I hope my local station opts out. This parade of “adequate” hosts isn’t cutting it. The guy on today just said that this current format is the plan for the rest of the year. If that’s true it means Premier never had a plan.
I will see what transpires, but as much as I like Dan Bongino, he’s going to have massive shoes to fill. I have listened to his podcasts in the past and ... meh.
Today was my last day to listen to WJAS in Pittsburgh. They put Rose Tennent in Rush’s slot. I didn’t really care for her when she and Jim Quinn had their show years ago. This practically insures that I won’t be tuning in now at all.
I am perfectly fine with the guest hosts on Rush’s program playing his clips. I would take that any day of the week. Of course, how long “the foreseeable future” of this lasts remains to be seen. Of the guest hosts, I have taken a liking to Ken Matthews at WHP in Harrisburg, who is on right after Rush’s show and sometimes guest hosts. To me, he’s the closest in spirit to the kind of host Rush was.
The last time NPR was willing to admit it, The Best of Car Talk (hosted by a gentleman who's been dead for 6 years) was NPR's 3rd most listened-to program.
As long as The Best of Rush leads other talk radio shows in a radio market, why wouldn't a radio station want to broadcast it?
No...Bongino was signed by a rival syndication firm, Westwood One, for a show that is airing 12N - 3pm EDT. In their announcement for Bongino’s show, Westwood hinted that he would be the “replacement” for Rush. Truth is, it’s just another show that airs in the same timeslot. A lot of networks/syndication outfits have shows airing at that time (Salem and Sirius/XM, for example). Doesn’t make them the replacement for Rush.
In fact, Rush’s syndication partner (Premier Radio, part of IHeart Media) just announced that the new format with “guide hosts” and clips from El Rushbo will continue indefinitely. Incredible listener loyalty to Rush—even after his passing—and if the syndicator and local stations can retain even half of his previous audience, they will still make money on the venture.
The only major Rush affiliate that has dropped the show (that I’m aware of) is WSB in Atlanta. They’ve promoted Eric Erickson to the slot; previously, after selling “Red State” he “hosted” afternoon news block on WSB, making him more of a broadcast traffic cop than an actual host. Never been impressed by Erickson on the air and I can’t believe WSB views him as a long-time solution. Interestingly, WSB’s sister station in Dayton, OH (WHIO, the Cox flagship) is still airing Rush’s show and apparently has no plans to change.
