They got rid of Trump and border control and energy independence and no wars. That’s what they wanted.

I love what Root says in his piece, but he could make one small correction, and it would be even better.

“it still has less deaths and hospitalizations”

“Less” should be “fewer”.

Trump did not want to lockdown. He had a impossible choice. Either lockdown and ruin a economy he spent 3 years building. And it was the best ever and the dems knew it. If the economy wasn’t ruined for a spell they would not have been able to create enough votes to steal the election. Call me nuts and I am probly wrong but I almost would blame deep state for releasing this virus in the world. Trump made trade more even with china and they hated him for it. They did not want another 4 years of Trump and neither did the dems. I would not put it past some of the evil politicians to go along with this.

If he did not lockdown then every death would be blamed on him for not locking down. But he was blamed for it anyways. Even though he did everything correct. They picked him apart. I think if this happened under obama then things would have been worse. And especially biden.

They didn’t like DeSantis because he backed Trump and ran the state the way Trump wanted to run the country during this whole mess. He has a target on his back for sure. But running the state the way he did shows the way it should have been done. I live in Florida and we all know it’s full of old peeps. There should have been more deaths here than anywhere else. Because he opened the state up and kept it open we will reach herd immunity sooner I think. The only reason he closed the beaches for a short time is because he saw a bunch of people not following directions and crowding the beach. Lol.

Didn’t you see the crematoriums? There are some Fearpers who post threads everyday showing the crematoriums operating at full capacity. Hospitals, too!

It is not as completely wide open as you saw. Perhaps at a conference center but most of us here are careful. There is no mandate to wear a mask, at least not one that is going to put you in jail if you don’t but most proprietors make it a requirement to enter. Restaurants have the social distancing thing down and do the wipe overs as suggested, in fact, they generally advertise that they do. Businesses are open and most people are happy with how the state is proceeding except the Karens whom we do have in abundance. The only unhappy group is the press which rails on DeSantis every move, whatever it is because they want him out as he is a great republican.

Here is the thing that bothers me. No one says when
A case is statistically closed. In the medical field we stop isolation at 14 days as you are no longer contagious. CDC has as little as a 10 day quarantine recommendation for infected people who are asymptomatic for 48 hours (specifically no fever). If this is the case in Florida there have been about 75000 cases in the last 14 days. We should be seeing cases moved to resolved but there remains this giant ass number hanging in not resolved. This is one of the subtle but completely bogus statistics of the disease. My guess in the state of Florida is that there are less than 50,000 active cases as this time.

I have always said the pandemic is over when we the people say it is. Your point is well taken.

There are still plenty of Chicken Littles in Florida.

I’m a northern state “snow bird” on a month-long FL getaway.

The other day I was in an Orlando-area Publix and didn’t see a single maskless patron or employee.

You’re not wrong at all. Ask yourself, what are the odds that the financial crisis would happen, to create chaos and fear and a voting public eager for change just when Obama needed to be elected?

And then that a once in a century “viral pandemic” would happen just when Trump needed to be UNelected? Not in 2019 or 2021, but in 2020, 6 months prior to Trump’s certain re-election.

Crazy, right?

Even though Florida has been wide open (without masks) for almost a year now...

Sure Wayne. What about the mask requirements at the super bowl and CPAC?

Statewide mandates make political statements but what matters is local requirements, like in Tampa and Orlando, and how people actually behave.

Something tells me Wayne hasn’t actually been to FL.

I’ve been a bunch of times in the last year. Some businesses required masks for entry, but that’s all I’ve noticed. The last two times we went, we left our masks in the car.

I like Mr Root. I really do. He's a very good writer.

Unfortunatrly, he's not being terribly truthful here. On March 14, 2020, he wrote "I'm Betting on America. Are You?" where he said:

Let's start with the bad. This is the worst mess of our lifetime. The economy is hanging by a thread. Stocks rebounded Friday but have been savaged. Small business is wrecked. Millions of Americans are about to lose their jobs. My beloved Vegas is -- for the moment -- down for the count. And I haven't even gotten to the health crisis yet.

I have many great friends and guests on my national TV and radio shows who are medical experts. Half believe this is the pandemic to end all pandemics. They quote Centers for Disease Control and Prevention models that report as many as 1.7 million Americans could die. So people are rightfully scared out of their minds. American business is shutting down. But the other half of my medical friends and expert guests say this is an overreaction. They predict fewer Americans will die than during the flu season of 2017-18 that killed about 80,000 people. They don't believe we need to close down American business and lock ourselves in our homes.

The problem is we won't know who's right until it's over.

So I have preached for President Donald Trump to attack this with everything he's got, not just the looming health care crisis but also the financial crisis. When all is said and done, we will need a 21st-century version of the Marshall Plan to save America's economy. We'll need a trillion-dollar plan to rescue small businesses and their employees, those sick with coronavirus, the tourism industry, the airlines, Las Vegas and all the rest.

I'm not playing Monday Morning QB. As much as many people like to be revisitonist, Mr Root is right - there WAS a lot of uncertainty in early/mid March. Indeed, I often quote this article to reiterate that reasonable folks could disagree.

Only by April was it very apparent that the virus, while fatal, killed the elderly and infirm while infecting the young without the same case fatality rate. A prudent plan of keeping schools and business open and shielding the elderly would have been MUCH better.

Again, people learn...so I'm not willing to bash people who through April were concerned but then saw the light and the attendant leftist grab for domination.

But please Mr Root, don't go all American Thinker on us.
