The point of making diesel and kerosene read Jet A or JP8 from this air is this solves the energy density issue with class 6 to 8 trucks aka big rigs. Also other than liquid hydrogen or LNG the only fuel source sense enough for long haul aircraft is Jet A.
That said the average American as recorded by the NHTSA commutes less than 40 miles per day that’s less than 200 miles in a work week. That means a EV with a 300+ mile range such as the tesla M3 will need a charge less than once a week. More importantly is most of those same people also have a driveway or a garage within 50 feet of a 120v outlet. 40 miles takes 10kWh of electricity gross from the plug. That’s the equivalent of running your cloths dryer for just under 2 hours or your air conditioner for an hour n half. From a 15amp 120v plug 10 kWh would take five and half hours to put in the pack far less than the typical 8 hours of sleep time an American gets. For people like me with 15,000 watts of solar on my roof that paid for themselves in under 4 years in sunny Texas we get 220+ days of sun as confirmed by NOAAs 30 year climate averages. On a typical January day the shortest daylight in the year my panels generate 120 kWh of power and in August they make nearly 200 I have seen 185 on an August day. At no point has my home EVER uses more than 80 kWh in a 24 hour period. That was in August with the dual zone AC heat pumps at 67 upstairs and 69 down I keep the house like a meat locker in summer why because I can. Anyway every kWh not used by the home is available for an EV in the 3 car garage put another way even in January my panels make over 400 miles PER DAY in vehicle range and they do that 220+ days a year. My next two vehicles will be EVs since I get power essentially for free now that my panels paid for themselves. I paid 35 cents a watt in bulk on the pallet, 50 cents a watt for the inverters and had my work crew install them at labor cost for under a grand. I hired a local electrician to do the final grid tie via the auto 300 amp tie in breaker ERCOT pays for solar kWh as is the law that our elected officials all Republicans I might add for 20 years now set up. I get paid anywhere from 3 cents to as high as $9 a kWh for every kWh I sell to the grid at peak times which just happens to be midsummer in the middle of the afternoons. I couldn’t be happier with my panels. During the blackout all my neighbors were down and shivering while during the day we ran the the heat pumps maxed out got the whole 3500+ sqft up to 83 degrees by sundown the thermal mass kept the temps above 70 till morning and the sun came back up. My inverters have stand alone mode they have no need for the grid to sync too. At night we ran the generac for a couple of hours just to keep it the 7 fridges and freezers up and running. Can’t let the 3 deep freezers melt nor let the wine n beer coolers turn off for too long. My neighbors all came over to warm up and charge phone use the Wi-Fi network. I couldn’t have asked for a better demo of off grid solar power than their homes at sub 40 degrees and mine at 80+ fully lit up, TV running DVR and food simmering away I made 10 gallons of venison chilli and feed the masses like a certain carpenter ha. All but one of my neighbors is buying panels and having stand alone inverters installed. Like I said I couldn’t have paid for a better demo.
