The U.S. Military vs. Russia and China in Africa: Who Is Winning?

From military bases to arms sales to economic trade and loans, both Beijing and Washington are wary of each other’s intentions on the continent.

t might be where lions roam, elephants stampede and giraffes loiter in the meadows, yet Africa is fast growing as an area of substantial U.S. military focus, in large measure due to ongoing Chinese and Russian activities in the region.

“As we look at Africa I would highlight to you that the largest concern we have is how we compete with Russia and China. From both a military and economic perspective, the Russian and Chinese are looking for opportunities to expand their influence,” Gen. Jeffrey Harrigian, Commander, U.S. Air Forces, Europe-Africa, told reporters recently at the 2021 Air Force Association Symposium.

In particular, China is not only a major arms supplier in Africa but is also fast-expanding its economic and military influence in the region. In recent years, the Chinese established a military base in Djibouti in close proximity to the U.S. presence there.

In 2009, China surpassed the United States as Africa’s largest trading partner, and by 2015, China’s trade with Africa had reached $300 billion, according to an essay from the African Center Strategic Studies entitled “Pursuing the China Dream through Africa: Five Elements of China’s Africa Strategy.”

New industrial and manufacturing technologies created the need to dominate new territories and their natural resources, including oil, rubber, coal, iron and other raw materials.

With the British Empire extending to five continents and France controlling many the African colonies, Germany wanted a larger slice of the territorial pie. As countries vied for position, tensions rose, and they formed alliances to position themselves for European dominance.

Africa is next frontier—with REM and oil.

China is far ahead of us. They simply go in and pay for what they want (with our dollars.) We go in and try to be their friends.

The people in charge in Africa have plenty of friends. They like the Chinese because they get top dollar and no crap.

In Africa, China buys influence while the US sends her sons & daughters. Pretty clear what is going to happen.

The Chinese will end up just like the Russians in Afghanistan. These countries eat up any nation that gets involved with them.

Besides our military is too busy developing maternity flight suits and getting rid of anyone in the ranks that has a shred of sanity to do anything effective anyhow.

What a joke.

Not just Africa, the locals are attacking Chinese factories in Myanmar.

Will the Chinese invade and send in troops?

https://apnews.com/article/beijing-china-martial-law-myanmar-df4e07d2903350b4fc119189deaac492

Adding to the uncertainties, China has said it is prepared to do more to protect its extensive business investments in Myanmar, which include factories, pipelines and other big infrastructure projects.

China’s state-run Global Times asserted that protesters “incited by the West” had attacked 32 factories, causing 240 million yuan (about $30 million) in damage.

Turmoil is bad for business and will deter investors, the Chinese state-owned broadcaster CGTN said in a commentary.

“But China won’t allow its interests to be exposed to further aggression. If the authorities cannot deliver and the chaos continues to spread, China might be forced into taking more drastic action to protect its interests,” CGTN said.

There’s nothing to win in Africa.
The abundant resources are far outweighed by the pain and effort.

If China and/or Russia want to become African colonialists, more power to them.

Soon they will learn the lament of the White Man’s Burden.

It took Europe nearly two centuries to pull themselves out of that morass. And you can still smell it on ‘em.

The Chinese will end up just like the Russians in Afghanistan. These countries eat up any nation that gets involved with them.

It depends on how ruthless China gets. I can see China eliminating all the Africans, and re-populating the area with their own people, thus relieving some population pressure in China.

“It depends on how ruthless China gets.”

I agree that China is more ruthless than any European country would even think of. I could see China attempting to sterilize Africa. However, at some point, God would step in to put a stop to it.

Our nation has been destroyed here, by Americans.

Births outside wedlock 40% and double digit teens going homo or trans.

Anyone wanting to fight in Africa, Asia or the Middle East should join up. My kids aren’t available.
