Yes he did. Does. From what I could tell he treated everyone with respect even when he was dealing with contentious people over contentious issues.

His public rhetoric may have lead people to think otherwise but I think that was just a tactic to prepare the ground ... as well as reassuring his base that he would be no pushover.

I know a lot of people here don't like Mike Pompeo but I think he was a perfect partner for Trump's foreign policy. He knew what Trump wanted, agreed with what Trump wanted and was smart enough to do what Trump needed him to do.

The US delegation led by 'Secretary of State Antony Blinken', flanked by 'US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan' , face their Chinese counterparts at the opening session of US-China talks at the Captain Cook Hotel in Anchorage, Alaska.

“We will ... discuss our deep concerns with actions by China, including in Xinjiang, Hong Kong, Taiwan, cyber attacks on the United States, economic coercion of our allies,” Blinken said in blunt public remarks at the start of the first meeting. “Each of these actions threaten the rules-based order that maintains global stability,” he said.

China’s top diplomat Yang Jiechi and State Councilor Wang Yi.....“Let me say here that in front of the Chinese side, the United States does not have the qualification to say that it wants to speak to China from a position of strength,” Yang said. “... the US side was not even qualified to say such things, even 20 years or 30 years back, because this is not the way to deal with the Chinese people ...”
