Judge in Derek Chauvin's murder trial dismisses two already-selected jurors after they said $27million wrongful death payout to George Floyd's family before trial WOULD sway their decision

A clearly frustrated Hennepin County District Judge Peter Cahill has excused two of the jurors already selected to serve in Derek Chauvin's murder trial before news of $27million settlement in the George Floyd’s family’s civil suit was reported.

Cahill interviewed seven jurors Wednesday morning and was satisfied that only five could still serve as fair and impartial in the trial of the former Minneapolis police officer charged following the death of the 46-year-old black man last spring.

The judge was critical of the announced settlement, which he described as ‘unfortunate’ in its timing.

Powerline has been following the trial. Many of the potential jurors expressed fear of reprisals if they rendered the "wrong" verdict.

Where did they get this 27 million dollar figure?

His life was useless. It’s not like there was any ‘lost potential’

Jourers got the right idea, don’t be on that jury.

Make them postpone the trial at this point imo.

The more time goes by the more likely actual justice can emerge.

How many times do we have to go through this sh**. Floyd was a criminal. There is no conclusive proof that these cops killed Floyd.

Someone should kneel on the judges neck, that is what he is doing to the jury.

Fear of reprisals seems to be the governing influence on jurors, as well as judges, these days.

George Floyd had almost 4 times the lethal dose of meth in his system, according to the autopsy report.

The Fake News networks hid this from the public for their own nefarious motives.

Such awards are meant to do more than just compensate the victim for lost wages, etc. They are also meant to punish the offending party for their bad behavior. I believe that’s called “punitive damages”.

But in this particular case the award is (of course) also meant to prevent riots, and influence the jury.

Based on the descriptions of the jurors from the linked article, the case is already over, and evidence won’t matter. Chauvin can’t get a fair trial in Minneapolis, maybe not anywhere.

This needs a change of venue now. The witnesses will. Just lie and say it wo t affect their decision, when everyone knows darn well it will. For this judge to continue this trial there is an Injustice to chauvinn

Not to mention a lethal dose of fentanyl and some other drugs as well, PLUS he had serious heart problems, very serious problems.

George floyd killed himself and at this point everyone knows it. Only the dishonest will keep pushing the murder charge at this point

Sounds like grounds for a mistrial to me.
Because the dept. paid, the guilt should be on them, not Chauvin.
I know— the way I think is simple and not in shades of grey. Of course they went for the deep pockets, you think Chauvin had $29 mil?

That was the intent of the payoff before the verdict.

The greatest fear of any defendant is being tried by twelve individuals who were not smart enough to get out of jury duty!

Those two knew how.

This guy doesn’t have a prayer here...except,perhaps,in a Federal Appeals Court. Of course those being considered to serve on this jury know that if they vote “incorrectly” on the charges they, and their families, face horrible consequences, possible even murder.
